Guest guest
Thanks for that Derrick. For those who may not have heard this before, there are 2 methods of measuring serum creatinine (and a third one, which is really just a multiple of one of them). Confusion can arise because of the abbreviations. micromoles per liter, are used almost the world over, except the USA. On computer screens, they are not abbreviated as mmol, as logic might have it, but as umol/L. This is because the greek micron (or letter Mu) symbol is too much trouble to find and insert (so we use a " u " instead). millimoles per litre are more rarely used, but are really the same as micromoles, except with the decimal point removed one place to the left. Used in Australia and perhaps other countries, but I don't know where else. This is usually abbreviated as mmol, but shouldn't be confused with micromoles (umol). mg/dl used to be used more widely, but I can't think of any place where this measure is still used except the U.S. It stands for milligrams per decilitre.
