Erna,

It is so good, it is difficult to believe at first. You have to

pinch yourself to make sure it is real, but it looks real enough to

me. I am so pleased for you and Josh, especially you, being a parent,

such a burden when things are not as we would have them be. What a

terrific way to start teh New Year!

Dear Erna

Oh I can't tell you how pleased I am to read your message about Josh,

this is fantastic. I could go on enthusing but this would be OTT.

Great to hear from you and thanks for the update.

Have a peaceful and happy new Year.

Merry Christmas to All and some good news re: Josh

Happy Holidays to Everyone!

The last time I emailed we were at the children's hospital for Josh's

annual

checkup with his pediatric nephrologist. (I did attempt to email after

that

from the Yahoo site, but it went away on me before I could send it!)

Just received a copy from the official ped neph's letter to our local

pediatrician who monitors Josh with bi-monthly visual check-ups. I'll

relate the numbers for those of you who like to compare.

His BP was 132/62, at 74.7 kg and 185.5 cm.

CBC normal; albumin 36 g/L; creatinine 84 umol/L; GFR 111ml/min/1.73m2

Urine showed small blood but only 2-5 cells per high-power field, trace

protein and specific gravity of 1.010

Protein/creatinine ratio was 38 (normal is less than 25 mg/mmol)

24 hr urine shoed protein excretion of 680 mg with creatine excretion of

263

umol/kg/day and creatinine clearance of 139 ml/min/1.73m2.

The ped neph noted that the 24 hr urine measurements have decreased in

the

last four years from 2010 mg to 1600mg, 1090 mg. and now 680 mg.

His summation was that Josh is doing 'quite nicely' and there might be a

chance that his renal disease will become 'quiescent'. (In this season

of

Silent Night, my prayer is that all of the iganers on this site will

have

'quiescent' iga.)

The good news for us is that he sees no need for Josh to be on a low

salt

diet. After 7 1/2 years it is hard to believe that I don't have to

restrict

Josh's activities according to whether or not there will be low salt

food

offered as part of the event. Josh is still on the salmon pills and

fosinopril; and he still seems to have

ongoing lowgrade sinus infections, for which the ped neph recommends

Nasonex

spray

on a regular basis instead of intermittently as Josh takes it now.

Prayers and best wishes to all for a healthy and prosperous 2003 from

Alberta, Canada.

Erna (Josh, 15, dx igan age 8)
