Guest guest
Hi - We are coming to SCD from GFCFSF. Where can I find a copy of this chart of stages? Sounds like it would be very helpful to help us get started right. Thanks -- Re: Carol-regarding stages Cece, I am the one who created the chart. It is based on BTVC, where we are told to peel/deseed/cook all fruits and vegetables initially. I had help from others who have used SCD in deciding which fruits and veggies seemed to be the easiest to digest. So, all I did was take those and put them together in a chart. Of course, as with anything, there are exceptions to every rule. Some kids cannot eat bananas, some kids can eat broccoli sooner. The chart was just a " general " rule of what seemed more easily digested. So, to answer your question. There is no timeline on the chart. That's written right above the chart. You can move forward and continue to add foods as you see that your child tolerates each new food. I mostly made the chart because many of the kids coming to the diet had been GFCF and parents were just finding the legal/illegal list of SCD foods and replacing their kids GFCF diet with an SCD legal one, BUT they were not starting with the intro and they did not add foods slowly to see what their children tolerated. I made the charts to remind everyone to start at the beginning and add foods slowly to see what is tolerated and what is not. If a particular child tolerates nut butters 3 days into the diet, that's fine. But some kids may not be able to tolerate any form of nuts for several weeks. Each child comes into this with a unique gut environment. What we want is healing. Jody mom to -5.1 and -7.
Guest guest
Welcome . It's on the pecan Bread Web site. have you studied all the great free information there? Check " Beyond Food intro " but start with the intro diet and be sure to get a copy of Breaking the Vicious Cycle (you may ant the newest edition coming out in spring) and can get an existing one at a library or read for free at a big chain bookstore like barnes and Noble. Guest guest
Jody, Thanks for your reply. I saw that you used the word " tolerating " quite a bit in your reply to me. The hard part is in defining the word, " tolerating. " In Elaine's old book, she says to wait until " after diarrhea is under control " . We have been doing the SCD since last June 16th and my son was having more formed stools within the first 3 weeks. In fact, in the years prior to starting the SCD we had gotten his diarrhea under control. His bowels could no longer be classified as diarrhea, but I knew they were not " normal " either. Even though we did everything by the standards, we hit an unexplained plateau. This plateau just snuck up on us, so determining what he was or was not " tolerating " is very hard. I have gone back and started over because I want to give this a chance to work. With Patti's help, she said that " maybe " he was eating too many raw fruits and veges. too soon. I know that this is all a bit of guess work right now, but I was hoping that someone could share their experiences in hopes to use solely as a guide. Knowing full well that each child will be different, do you have a ball park timeframe that you are using on your own child? I just want to her stories of what others are doing. Not to interpret them word for word with my child, but because hearing others eperiences sometimes helps. Right now, I am thinking about one month on stage 1 and then moving to stage 2 and then seeing if there are any reactions. But this is just something that I have made up for the sake of having a " plan. " I have no scientific basis for this rationale. I just want to be more deliberate than we were last summer so I can allow sufficient time for healing and maybe this time, not have progress come to a standstill. In addition, I am going to go back and read Jen Youngs story again to see if anything she wrote will help me. Maybe in the future, my notes or experience will help guide someone else.
