Guest guest
Major Changes-- Gave dad the first dose of Risperdal on Friday night. Saturday was like the best day in long time. Dad seemed like another person. He was very aware. We had some good discussions. He was my dad from 5 years ago. By night, he seemed a little restless. I hoped that this positive change would remain. The next day, I couldn't get dad out of bed. He could not stand nor could he drink liquids except for a few sips. I took him to emergency and after a few hours they admitted him. Because they took him all his meds, I knew there was a possibility he would get violent again. Yesterday, he was awake but back to his dementia self. He wanted to get out of bed and we told him he could not walk. He started to hit so I decided we were probably making him agitated so we left. Today, he was the same as yesterday. They want to do a swallow test on him to see where the food is going. The doctor also advised me that he would be a pretty good candidate for hospice. I may also have to make a decision about his Advanced Directive soon, which is scary for me. I am so glad that I got to have Saturday with my dad. It was totally THE BEST!!!! We drove around town and reminisced about things.I know now how cloudy and fuzzy he is truly seeing things. It sort of reminded me of the Robin ' movie " Awakening " . We will probably know more in a day or two--how much he is really eating. Is it enough to sustain him? What if he still can't drink? What about the IV? I am facing new challenges and it is happening so quickly. Aloha,
