I started WW earlier this year. I have had limited success with it. I am on

Avandia (4mg twice a day) and Glucaphage (1000 mg twice a day) and those meds

are making weight loss extremely difficult.

The current WW program give you a range of points for your weight and then

assigns a point value to every type of food. So, if I have 20 points a day,

I can eat anything that equals 20 points. If I chose to eat all types of

starches that is me and it is supposed to be fine. If I chose to eat all

points in proteins, that is fine too. Allegedly, I never tried this as a

diabetic, if you had a chocolate day and consumed all your points that way,

you could still lose weight.

They tell you to eat a balanced meal plan and consume 48 oz. of water per

day. They suggest you have 5 fruits and vegetables and 2 milk servings.

I want to cut back my meds. It is very discouraging to apply yourself and do

it well and not lose. I do 90 minutes of strenuous exercises 3 times a week

and a couple of 1/2 hour " walking " type exercises the remainder of the time

and am have no more luck than when I was not on a diet nor exercising.

Just a little note about Weight Watchers---been there done that, but

before " D " ! It really works, too. There are several previous diets

that do not allow " everything " like the 123. Here is one:

Women

Fruit 2-3

Vegetables At least 2-3

Fat 3

Protein 5

Bread 2

Milk 2

You must eat this amount everyday. It works because I always ate

everything I should (being the pig that I am) and my sil only ate small

amounts. Guess who lost a lot more?

Notice the bread - seems like a low carb WW and this was in 1990.

Hope this helps.

It is my understanding that the Avandia that keeps the pounds on. Although,

I had a doctor tell me that a medication I was once on, the one Avandia

replaced that was called off the market due to liver failure, would help me

lose weight. All the literature provided with the medication by the

pharmaceutical company indicated weight gain was a side affect of the drug.

I was on insulin at the same time, for about a year, and that is when I

gained 60 pounds.

I'm in the process of trying to wean off insulin and wean onto

glucophage in the hopes of some weight loss help. The insulin is a

bear with weight. It makes the body too " efficient " - fuel in is

stored - period.

I was so good for the first so many months after diagnosis. I ate

really rigidly, had fabulous A1Cs and exercised alot and I lose 0,

nothing, nada, cero, zip. I was so frustrated! Then I got careless

with eating and gained quite a bit. My sugars are still within

normal range but I could do better without these extra pounds.
