Guest guest
Hi, it's me again lol I took your advice on calling the insurance provider about my neck ultrasound scheduled for Aug.2nd and I found out that I did not have to wait 6mths for the test after doing my w.b.s./RAI. So, I rescheduled the ultrasound myself since my endocrinologist's nurse didn't understand what I needed done when I left her a v.m. about it. Well, anyway here's what happened I went last Friday for the neck ultrasound and the endo. called today with the news that there is something in my lymph node about a 1/2 inch and she needs me to go June 1st for another biopsy/ultrasound but she doesn't know where exactly it is so she said they will ultrasound me to find the spot than do the biopsy to check for cancer again but she said that she doubts its cancer.?. Has anyone else ever had this happen? This will be my 3rd biopsy and to tell you the truth I am just fed up with all the bloodwork/w.b.s./rai's/biopsy's. I don't like needles or being poked and probed at. lol Please if anyone knows about this and what is to come next since my endo's is not sure yet and she said that she just wants to stay on top of it since I am so young. Any advice again will be helpful. Thanks, B.Y. Hello B.Y., I am having similar problems. It started about 8 months ago I noticed my lymph nodes in the front of my neck and in the back of my neck swollen. Did a ultrasound & scan and set me up for a biopsy ultrasound of the lymph nodes, but got there and they only saw muscle where they were suspicious of so didn't do it but said there was something in the front of my neck from the scan and have to have radiation in June. My question for you is your lymph nodes swollen?? Have they done a thyroid body scan?? HUGS Chrissy

Guest guest
Dear Chrissy, Can you please advise what exactly is the purpose of a thyroid body scan, and what is the purpose of having one? I have never heard of this and I am just trying to learn about things. Thanks, Chrissy, Angie Hello Angie, ok, I had my whole thyroid removed in 1996 due to a cancerous tumor on my thyroid. And thyroid cancer can come back in the lymph nodes. If there is any suspision your cancer is back, you should have a thyroid body scan, what they do is give you a very small dose of radiation, a pill, radioactive iodine, and a machine scans you, if the cancer is back the radiation sticks to it and the scan picks it up, in my case the scan came back positive and have to have radiation again next month. Do you go to a endocrinologist? I recommend you to do so, they specialize in thyroid problems. Chrissy
Guest guest
Hi Chrissy, No, I don't have swollen lymph nodes and just finished my second thyroid whole body scan due to the thyroidectomy in may 2001. I have been dealing with this since 1999. It started with hyperthyroidism in 1999 after delivery of my 2nd girl, she was born with the cord around her neck once. That was my only complication with delivery and I had no problems whatsoever during my first or second during pregnancy. How do you do on the radiation treatments? Just asking since I get so sick when I go off my levoxyl and start the cytomel for 4 weeks and then nothing for 2 weeks before radioactive iodide treatment that my endocrinologist has to write me off work for 6 weeks just to do it. Thanks for responding and good luck with your thyroid issue. B.Y., Indiana Hello B.Y., I do terrible with radiation treatments, they are doing the same to me, took my synthroid away, put me on cytomel for 4 weeks, and off that for 2 weeks and have lab work and should beable to have my radiation the end of the first week on June. I am so weak and achy. Then when given the radiation, (had it in 1996) my throat was sore for 2 days then I was fine. In 1996 had to go in the hospital just one night, but now can do it as an outpatient. How will you be doing it?? As an outpatient I have to have sole use of the bathroom for 2 weeks, can't be around kids for 3 weeks, for 3 days no contact at all with anyone, then days 4-14 can see adults for 2 hours a day as long as they remain at least 6 feet from me. It seems so drastic to me?? What instructions have you been given? In 1996 had no restrictions like this?? Was not told to stay away from people for 2 weeks and no contact??
