Guest guest
Thanks Jan for your input on Cytomel, my endo said after the radiation she wants me on synthroid and cytomel. Does anyone here take Glucophage?? Its prescibed to diabetics for weight loss. It suppresses your appetite. It really works on me. Was wondering if anyone else takes it? HUGS Chrissy I am not , but thought I'd butt in anyway. :-) I've been on Cytomel since 2000. A few months after starting Synthroid, I was not only symptomatic but also had a Free T4 level in the very top of the normal range, and a Free T3 level that was still below range. For me, the T4 medication cleared a few symptoms (sleeping a ton, weight gain, water retention/bloating) but did nothing to some of them (brain fog, depression, fybromialgia, low body temperature). Cytomel changed my life. I took it until late June 2003, when it went off the market here in Brazil (it wasn't taken off the market, the lab simply went bankrupt). I was self-treating at the time (I had moved cities and my previous doctor was my cousin, so I'd consult her through ICQ as needed), so I started looking for a new doctor to get a prescription for compounded time-released T3 (I couldn't use a Rx from a different city). Meanwhile, I ordered some from myrxforless.com. I found myself without it for a while and by mid- July, I was really symptomatic again. I was so yellow that I have pictures from that time in which although I was wearing makeup, you can see an orangey/yellow ring around my mouth. My hair started falling off in clumps. I'd increased my Synthroid to try to make up for the lack of Cytomel, but it was no help. I started getting really bloated. In August the weight gain came. I was following a really strict diet, exercising 90-120m a day, and was in the best shape of my life in June - I was smaller than I'd been at 11 years old, with a body fat % that put me in the athletic category (leaner than the average healthy female). I gained 30lb from August 1st to September 1st. I got back on the Cytomel in mid-August, but the damage was done. The symptoms only started clearing in mid-December. So I can say that I'd be nothing without my Cytomel. Jan Hey , how do you feel on cytomel?? My endo has mentioned it. HUGS Chrissy
Guest guest
Robin----I'm gonna stick my neck out here and say that you need the addition of at least some T3, if not Armour. I don't think it's Glucophage killing your appetite. The depression and no appetite are tight symptoms of undertreatment/wrong treatment for some. Any thoughts here? Re: Re: me again! about TSH/CYTOMEL//GLUCOPHAGE?? Chrissy, Hi. I take the synthroid and the generic form of glucophage. Most of the time I have no apetite at all but, I am severely depressed at the moment and eat whether I am hungry or not. Hugs, Robin
Guest guest
Hi Robin, Since you're taking just a T4 (Synthroid) and are " severely depressed, " have you considered adding T3 to your regimen? When I was just starting thyroid treatment, I had been depressed for several years and was on almost every SSRI antidepressant out there. They helped some but never took care of the problem. It wasn't until I added T3/Cytomel to the Synthroid that the depression really lifted. Just thought I'd recommend this since it made such a huge difference for me. And..... I know what it's like to be really depressed! Janet - In The_Thyroid_Support_Group , Robin <mares_92097@y...> wrote: > Chrissy, > Hi. I take the synthroid and the generic form of glucophage. Guest guest
Wait a minute!---He told you that your TSH was HIGH and you're going HYPER?!!! Get rid of this doctor because he is dangerous. You'll never make that move if you don't just do it. High TSH = Hypo Low TSH = Who cares because it doesn't matter because your Free T4 is entirely too low! Plus No Free T3, so it's hard to really know what's going on in there You need to move on from this doctor now. Re: Re: me again! about TSH/CYTOMEL//GLUCOPHAGE?? , I don't know, I have been trying to get my doctor to run other tests but, he just tell me it is fibromyalgia. My emotions are swinging from one end to another now and i feel as if I am going to have a nervous breakdown. I can't handle the pain or frustration any more. He swithched my meds around saaying that should solve it and that my tsh is high and that I was going hyper. The last test results I have are tsh super sensitive 0.07 (0.49 -4.67) and free T4 0.95 (0.71 - 1.85) I will see my doc again on the third. I don't think he is really listening to me. Guest guest
Yes, I've taken Glucophage for PCOS and I am gonna go back on it - it worked wonders. Didn't suppress appetite per se, but got rid of insulin resistance and made me feel better and lose weight. I can't wait to go back on it, and I am gonna do it with or without a prescription. My doctor was trying a different approach, but it didn't work as well. Jan Re: me again! about TSH/CYTOMEL//GLUCOPHAGE?? Guest guest
They say no appetite can be from adrenal fatigue, and undertreatment/wrong treatment can lead to adrenal fatigue... Glucophage does make me eat less, cause it gets rid of the pesky cravings, the ones that cause me to give in to the dessert craving a few times a week (although it is fruit, it does blow my "carb allowance"), but it doesn't get rid of the appetite. Also, depression is usually linked to low T3 levels, like you said. Guest guest
It only discouraged me from eating by giving me a very bitter taste in my mouth, so food doesn't taste too good. LOL Jan Re: me again! about TSH/CYTOMEL//GLUCOPHAGE?? Hello Jenni, I am diabetic so was prescribed Glucophage for my diabetes and my Dr. told me it suppresses the appetite and I have noticed it does suppress mine alot, thank god. It helps control my appetite soooooooooo much, it helps so much with the cravings. So between that and the Dr. Phil Weight Solution books I ordered I am hopeing to lose some weight. lol HUGS Chrissy
