Guest guest
I just wanted to update you all on Pat's transition. She is now 18 and a senior. We have been in the PPT (IEP or whatever each state calls it) process in developing that for her future. It is incredibly difficult. Incredibly! Along with that as I said before, we applied for SSI on Oct 1 and still they have not determined her disabled! This is through something called Disability Determination Services. It appears all her disabling conditions are not severe enough in their own category to label her disabled. Can you imagine? Now they have scheduled their doctors to evaluate her-because they said her records are over a year old. This isn't true and in fact we have to wait a for her own doctors to see her because insurance won't pay for physicals unless it has been over a year, and it hasn't. So the good news is she went to her audiologist and we found her hearing has remained the same! But as I was speaking to the audiologist I found out she meets the criteria for SSI due to her hearing loss-ALONE! There is so much more to this as well. I'll post later. My point is she is transitioning out and we are stuck in the story of The Little Red Hen. Not I said the... Not I... Not I.... We must stand up for programs that meet our children's needs with all the governmental cuts occurring now. I'll post more later but I warn you all it will be a long one!
