The book Breaking the Vicious Cycle is loaded with SCD science and the Pecan

Bread website contains a segment about research and science. There is also

a post in recent days about Celiac Disease and Autism which is on the Yahoo

site.

Hi Sondra,

the best book I have read about things that can go wrong in the gut

is written by Shaw Ph.D. (and of course BTVC as an eye-

opener). He explains in great detail how all the processes influence

each other and what the terrible results are. The book is

called 'Biological treatments for Autism and PDD', ISBN 0-9661238-1-6.

HOWEVER - he does not come up with solutions, he does not guide the

reader towards BREAKING that cycle. Elaine DOES.

My husband is a skeptical and scientific person also. But HE was the

one who told me to read BTVC, as he saw so much sense in SCD right

from the start.

I agree with the other post that you should read " Biological

Treatments for Autism and PDD " by Dr. Shaw. I am not a

scientist, but I am of a very scientific/medical mind - the book

reads like a textbook which is exactly what I like.

The book does not specifically steer towards any one treatment, but

it does a very good job explaining what is happening in the gut.

There is a very good chapter on yeast.

My husband is to the point of anger with this diet, and I only just

started it yesterday! He feels I am depriving my son of " being a

kid " by taking away the only things he's eating - all of which

happen to be heavy on the corn, carbs, sugar - everything that feeds

yeast. I began the intro diet yesterday evening with dinner because

that's when my husband left to begin his 7 day long stretch of

working nights. I'm hoping that it's enough time for me to

implement the diet, see at least some die off, and maybe even some

results, so that he might be a little more convinced. I know he

will have the attitude that " a little chocolate isn't going to kill

him " though so it's going to be a constant source of battle for us

unless we see some big improvements quickly. He won't let me buy

the book because he sees it as wasting money on something that we

don't even know will work.

Anyway, that book is excellent and I highly recommend it!

When your husband tastes the SCD cakes, cookies, candies " fries and chips "

puddings, crackers etc. his anger may subside as his mouth will be full:-

)

It's a natural reaction to conclude that no grain means no carbohydrate treats.

Personally SCD treats seem to me to have more body, flavor and richness. I

like my own fudge recipe, Diva's Fab Fudge on the pecan Bread recipe section

of the web site and we recently added some for other caramel like treats. Feed

the guy an SCD pizza first!

I think there is some additional research on Elaine's website,

www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info .

Need scientific articles/info for SCD

Hi all. I need some articles, scientific basis, etc. to back up SCD

and why/how it works so well. My husband is a scientist and very

skeptical to say the least. I need some strong proof of why this is

so good for our children. I have Elaine's book and the info off

Pecanbread but I'm looking for more beyond that, specifically

pinpointing yeast/bacteria involvement with gut disorders, brain

disorders, etc.

I'm searching the internet and finding some but thought you experts

might have something great. You can email me privately.

Thanks in advance,

Sondra
