--I am in a lot of pain with the arthritis and all. I have tried a lot

of prescription meds for the pain. Have you asked about Vioxx or Naproxen?

They are both good, but I have found that good old Tylenol Arthritis is the

best. I have tried Aleve, well, you can count that one out. Ask your doctor

about Vioxx, Naproxen or Cliniral is a good one also. I am not sure I

spelled it right, but it is also good. Good luck to you with a new doctor.

Dear List,

I know there are others out there who suffer with

pain. The pain in my right shoulder has accelerated

to such a point that I cannot even pick up a pen and

pay my bills without extreme pain.

I did call the HMO today and asked for a new

doctor, since I have been not allowed to see my

primary care provider until my next appointment which

is at the end of this month. I see the dr. on

Wednesday.

What types of meds, etc. do you with constant

pain take? I was on Celebrex, but the chiropracter

told me that Celebrex is bad for the heart. I am now

on Neurontin, but that doesn't seem to do a thing.

The chiropracter has been working on me 3 days a

week but I seem to be getting worse instead of better.

I was crying so hard when i called the HMO lady

she had me talk with the mental health people becuase

she was worried about me. I haven't seen my therapist

in 3 weeks because he is out of town.

So, your list owner is in a lot of pain. Any

ideas would be helpful!

Hi - I have terrible cramps from my period (and fibroid tumors) and

take percocet for it once in a while. It is a pretty good pain killer but

many drs won't prescribe it because it is addictive (a narcotic).

, I am glad you are seeing a new dr. I really hope this one helps. My

bil was telling me about a Celebrex cream. He said it worked faster than

the pills since it goes through the skin. Not sure if it would help, but

thought I would mention it.

Good luck.

Hi -- I really really sympathize. The only thing I can suggest is

making sure your new doctor checks (or better yet, has an orthopedist check)

to see if your shoulder pain is being caused by advanced arthritis. If that

is the case, and the pain is caused by the shoulder joint being severely

deteriorated, surgery might be the best option.

Of course I hope that's not your problem, but it would be worth checking.

My mother's shoulder replacement wasn't fun, but she now has a functioning

right shoulder without pain. Whatever the problem is, I hope it will soon

be solved!

In any case, given the severity of the problem, it seems to me that an

orthopedist visit would be justified, if that hasn't happened already. Your

HMO might not like the idea, but that's just too bad. HMOs are supposed to

pay for referrals that are needed and justified, and this sure sounds like it

is needed and justified! Best wishes --

Hi ,

I remember working with someone years ago that had been injured during World

War II. The doctors had wanted to amputate his arm, but he refused to let

them. He told me that the only thing that would give him relief was taking

his wife's Midol tablets. Several years ago, I pulled a muscle in my

back/side. I tried aspirin, Tylenol with no good results. I thought about

what this friend had told me, so I went to the drug store and got a box of

Midol. I started taking them and the pain was gone in a day or so. I don't

know if you can take the Midol or if it would help. I'm only passing on

information I have gathered over the years.

Hugs

Dear ,

My heart goes out to you. I used to have to miss

work every month I had such a bad monthly time. Then

I had my 3 sons and things got better.

Thanks for the idea, we'll see what the new doctor

orders, but I'm thankful for all the ideas I get.

---Have you had an MRI or scan done to see what the cause is?????

my husband had a torn rotary cuff that caused his pain.

When I had it a long time ago, it was bursitis and I had to exercise

it so the shoulder wouldn't freeze. I had to walk my fingers up the

wall even at work. The other ladies kept making me do it!

Celebrex and Vioux are not for people who have other problems. We

found out the hard way when my husband was on it for arthritis. It

sent his blood pressure through the roof. He had a problem with the

blood pressure to start with and those meds just esculated it.

All he is allowed to take to tylenol xtra strength.

My shoulder pain was from arthritis in the AC joint in my right

shoulder. I finally got relief after a cortisone shot this summer, but now

that I am back at work (teaching) I can feel it starting to act up again.

Haven't had anything done, since my " old " doctor won't

see me between appointments. My husband was talking

to the lady that works in the drug store. She said

she left that same doctor for the same reason. She

refuses to see patients between visits (9 weeks) even

if you are dying!

I do thank all of you who have sent ideas. My

appointment with the new doctor is Wednesday at 1:30.

Hopefully I can make it until then!!

(in loads of pain):(
