Cheryl, I am glad you added this as my doctor did my levels first then gave me an increased dose that I titered down and I had to have it rechecked. She also said I would have to monitor it often. The intrinsic factor in you gut also may prevent absorption or other problems as you said and it needs to be monitored by a doctor. There are also many sites that give you the normal requirement. I found the normal vitamin amounts by typing in " vitamin chart " and found lots of helpful information. Bennie
Guest guest
Hi folks, My name is and I'm new to the group. I have constant problems with my vitamin D. A couple of months ago my headache/migraine doc tested my level on a hunch and found that I had abolutely no vitamin D in me. He put me on 50000IU caps daily for 1 month and then re-tested. By then I was 23% of 'normal'. We repeated daily for 15 days and then once a week for 2 months then re-tested. It didn't budge and it hasn't since. I still take it once a week and this is 4 months since the 2nd test. What's odd is that I lived 30+ years in Buffalo NY, one of the cloudiest areas in the US with no problems. For the last 16 years I've lived in Raleigh, NC where a day without sun is rare any time of the year and I lose my vitamin D. I have always used a lot of milk and eaten other good sources of it. So where did it go? I have also lost melatonin. My arms and face have had a perpetual tan that doesn't go away during the winter because I always was outside working or playing. I have vast white splotches on my forearms especially. Driving around in my convertible this springs tanned them up again but it keeps lightening up again. Any ideas? I have several pain problems: ME and CFS, fibro, severe spinal osteoarthritis, DDD, facet joint syndrome, several types of migraine and headaches, Ehlers-Danlos among others. Guest guest
Hi , I think you mean you lost Melanin (pigment), Melatonin is the sleep hormone, of couse you may have lost that too, lol My guess would be magnesium deficiency. Magnesium is a smooth muscle relaxer and helps absorb calcium. Having said this, you really should take a multivitamin w/minerals as they all work synergistically. Otherwise one can deplete the other. Of course extra Cal/mag/d/zinc should be supplemented separately. Hope this helps. I hope this helps > wrote: >I have also lost melatonin.
