I don't know of any low sugar milk. I use the Fat-free milk (Walmart brand).

It has 11 grams of carbs/sugar. I use it in my coffee and also cereal when

I have dry cereal. When using it both in coffee and cereal, I have about 1/2

cup. So far, no problems with it for me. I do know, however, that some

people cannot use milk in their coffee.

Thanks for the info on milk sugar. I am not nearly as fond of milk as I am

of other carbs, and would rather reserve my carb allowance for foods I enjoy

more and/or which have more fiber, etc. I am hoping I can get enough

calcium from veggies and supplements to avoid osteoporosis (or however it's

spelled). Is that how other diabetics deal with the calcium issue? Thanks

for any info --

Hi Marie,

I, too, have to watch cholesterol. I use water with my oatmeal. I do add a

packet of Splenda and some cinnamon to it. This morning I added a sliced

peach. Two hrs later, my reading was 97.

I think whole milk has less carbs/sugar then 2% and skim. I don't know why

there is sugar in milk. There is no sugar in heavy whipping cream.

I'm reading on the label of my 2% fat, 1 gal milk jug, 1 serving or 1 cup of

milk has 14gr sugar. Now, that is too much. Are they putting it in there or

it is natural in any milk? Is there any low sugar milk on the market?

Thanks JS

Milk of any variety contains " sugar " naturally and it cannot be

removed. I checked with dairy folks and they say there is no way to

remove sugar from milk. This includes dry milk, canned milk, skim,

1/2%, 1%, 2% or whole.

When you use Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate with Nutra Sweet the sugar

content is from the dry milk.

Whipping cream does not contain sugar because it is the " fat " that

rises to top of milk. Fat is sugar-free.

I have checked various kinds/brands of milk and the range has been

from 11g to much more. The much more is added sugar.

Milk is great on oatmeal for breakfast but at times I just use water

to thin to avoid the sugar carbs.

---I have been using the heavy whipping cream and diluting it a

lot. Works well for me for my coffee. I keep a container with it

already diluted at work. I keep adding more water to it though.

Pretty soon it will be all water! I use soy milk though in cereal.

I do get the low carb soy (4gr)in a cupful and I don't use a cup in

my cereal.

Have you tried a mixture of 1 T. old fashion oatmeal, 1 T. oat barn, 1

T. toasted soy granules, 1 T. wheat bran, 2/3 c. water, microwave on

high until mixture rolls but not over the top. Add 1 t. cinnamon,

Splenda, 1 T. ground flaxseeds?
