There are very few resources *out there* for homeschooling deaf children. I'm working on compiling helpful resources for precisely that reason. There is a print newsletter for hearing parents who are homeschooling deaf children and I started an e-mail list for this as well. There is no funding for homeschooling, however, in some states you can dual enroll with the school district and they will provide materials to you. They are still obligated to provide services to your child even if you homeschool. Homeschooling does not have to be expensive. There are many wonderful things available on the net, as a homeschooler you would have access to educator discounts and freebies for teachers, and the library is always free. I know many people who only spend a couple hundred dollars a year. The key to excellent homeschooling is not how much you know, but how much you are willing to learn. There is also no reason that you can't ask other people you know to cover subjects that you don't know much about. There are homeschool associations in most cities and there are frequently math and science classes(as well as other subjects) for homeschoolers. I think it depends more on the child than the state. Patty has a fluctuating hearing loss, so she has hearing evals scheduled for every 2-3 months, and on an emergency basis in between if I see signs that her hearing has dropped significantly. This is through private insurance, but I was told that could be done or augmented through our County audiologist (our school district is too small to have it's own audiologist) should the insurance stop paying. I think that hearing evals are done through the IEP. For example I know in my school they do them every three months for one child because she has a progressive loss.
