"My research and my radiologist tell me:- Because of my age and likely side effects, I am not a candidate for RP, EBRT w/brachytherapy, homones, cryotherapy"

Hi .

I think that further research would show that you are a viable candidate for other treatments unless you have some pre-existing condition that has not been mentioned. At age 72 I was offered RP, various radiation protocols, and Cryosurgery. It must be said that no two cancers or patients are ever the same......"Cow one is not cow two." Hayakawa..........but I think a second opinion may expand your horizons.

I opted for Cryo because of some lifestyle issues and when I had recurrence, a year later at age 73 I started ADT (Androgen Deprivation Therapy) and I am still receiving it 2 1/2 years later with PSA <0.1. I take Eligard 6 month injection.

All my best to you and on the journey ahead.

Thanks for your welcome. At age 73 -in otherwise good health- diagnosed 11/06 with Stage T2a Gleason 3+3=6 PSA 6.9 Prostate Volume 75ccPSA History: 3/2004 6.1 11/2004 6.6 2005 5.5 7/2006 6.5 11/06 6.9 My research and my radiologist tell me:- Because of my age and likely side effects, I am not a candidate for RP, EBRT w/brachytherapy, homones, cryotherapy. I have chosen IMRT. Of 13 cores, one was 10% positive for cancer. I was told this is an early, "very small very treatable" cancer and that my options were watchful waiting or radiation. I do not think...any...cancer in your body is insignificant. We know the microscopic is insidious and feel we need to be as agressive as age will permit. Simulation is scheduled 1/2/07 - Tuesday Would welcome any input from members here. Thank you in advance. and

No one should tell you what to do here other than look at all options and chose the one for you.

This usually comes down to which potential side effects you can live with.

You are right that some men cannot live with active monitoring (the better type of watchful waiting!), though it is possible from your PSA readings that the cancer will be almost dormant for some time.

For the gold treatments at your stage there is said to be a 75% success rate of no recurrence within 5 and 10 years.

This is a difficult time - I remember I had similar dilemmas 10 years a go when I opted for surgery.

I haven't experience of IMRT - some other group members may have. Have you talked to your medics about the pros and cons of this treatment and the success rate?

My best wishes
