Guest guest
Enzymes don't break food down " fast " or " slow " from my understanding. They allow more complete absorption of food. So, technically, I think you would feel more full after a meal with enzymes because more nutrition would be absorbed from the meal. It seems like you should be able to add some more foods to his menu. Does he not like anything else? I know it's a pain, but have you ever figured approximately how many calories he is taking in? That might give you an idea whether he really needs more food or whether he just has a faulty " hungry " button. Also, is he thin or overweight? Guest guest
My son actually had the voracious appetite in the first few weeks of starting SCD. I think it was because he was finally nourishing his cells. We would give him 3 times the amount of food that I would eat (he's 4 years old, I'm 34) and we would put him to bed begging for more food after 3 dinners and plenty of water. It was unbelieveable. But, his voracious appetite is diminishing and he is not eating quite that much. He was always on enzymes. I doubt that has anything to do with it. He is now having trophies and behavior is improved. I know SCD is helping him alot. (4), asd, scd 6 weeks
Guest guest
My son is just starting SCD and is eating a lot more than he was. Do you think that they are craving the starches so they just want to keep eating? karen
Guest guest
I think you are right on about that, . I have done Atkins, maybe some of you have too. I know that SCD is not Atkins, but when I removed sugars from my diet, I would have done almost anything at times for something starchy or anything with sugar. I found myself eating more food in the beginning to try to get the cravings/hunger in check. Then the feeling would go away after a week or so, but would resurface again after a period of time. I'm sure it was yeast die off. Anytime you starve the yeast, you are going to be hungry, and craving the foods that feed them. But it makes complete sense that some of our kids are very hungry. Guest guest
Yes, this is reported a lot in the beginning. Can last awhile - I've seen parents report extra hungry kids for a few days, to several weeks (stretching into months). You get used to it and then you realize they are not eating constantly anymore. That's what happened here. For us, If I could keep Adam happily busy, that helped. Hold fast to whatever rules you are following about foods- don't give in just because he's hungry - offer more of whatever you is " OK " for you at the time. (P.S. i know this is very hard. I managed it with my son, but my daughter was tougher, longer, and I did some giving in. Now I'm having to go back and start over, and its very painful.) -- Sue, mom to Adam and SCD 2.5 months > My son is just starting SCD and is eating a lot more than he was.
