Question about the diet

Hello all,

I am new to the list and haven't started the diet yet. I have been reading

that a lot of people have the whole family go SCD. Well, I can't see that

happening here. I wouldn't mind it, as I am GF already. My husband however,

would not do it! How do you go about it with only half of the family being SCD?

I can see limiting illegal foods to only the ones Sam (my son with ASD)

doesn't like, but I am worried about it.

I am also about ready to scream because my son is crying his eyes out because

he wants corn chips and rice cakes and it is not that day in his rotation! I

have the urge to just rid the house of all of it right now, but I have no

idea how to do the diet, since I don't have the book, yet!

Sorry about the rambling but things are difficult here.

Hi Jana,

My family is all over the place when it comes to eating.

(ASD?) is 100% SCD. (NT) is about 90% SCD. I've been

following a low-carb (not Atkins exactly) diet (with whopping

cheating over Christmas, but we won't go there), and my husband eats

whatever he wants whenever he wants to.

rarely asks for any illegal food since I started saying no to

her. The hardest things to give up were fries and bread, and she

still asks for fries now and then when she sees the " golden

arches. " However, we do have bread, crackers, etc. in the house.

She is just not the kind of kid to go looking in the cupboard for

food. She always asks before eating something, so I'm lucky.

We try not to eat illegals in front of her (okay, I NEVER do it, but

DH is less scrupulous). If she sees my husband eating toast, she

might say, " ummm yummy toast. " And I say, " I'm sorry you can't have

any. Toast hurts your tummy and makes you sick. "

So, it can be done, but it will make you a bit more nutty about all

the cooking you have to do. Sometimes it's easy -- for example,

roast beef and carrots for the girls, roast beef and salad for me,

roast beef and rice (DH is Chinese) and carrots and salad for DH.

Sometimes we all eat something different.

I can tell you we cook a lot of " large meat " items -- roast beef,

chickens, pork roasts, etc.

I admire those families who have gone SCD together. It takes great

dedication, and I wish we had it!
