Guest guest
Hi Carol I have never heard of ever read that. Where did you see that? Someone once told me that they heard that being on a high protein diet made people more aggressive but I don't know how true that is. I don't think it makes me depressed. Do you? Just curious. Guest guest
Just the opposite for me - eating high carb causes depression, anxiety, sleep disturbances, chronic fatige and fuzzy brain. And yeast problems. I improve drastically after a few days on lc. Beth in TX > Has anyone heard about how eating low carb can cause depression? Guest guest
I think it is just the opposite. For me, eating LC really improved my moods. I felt so much better when really cutting out the bad stuff. The feeling of being healthy and happy is the biggest reason I am trying to get back to the basics. And they recommend that you take a anti depressant???? I was curious about this. Hi Carol I have heard this and experienced it myself, however, it seemed to pass after a few months. I was already on antidepressants but it seemed like after the initial slump I actually got better. I think my slump was due to all the hormonal changes I was going through anyway and combined with the changes brought on by the diet. I think it's definately a YMMV thing. in Ames __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Are you taking Synthroid, Levothroid, Levoxyl, Unithroid, or what brand, Jillian? Guest guest
I am taking syntroid... I do not have my levels, but I do know that when I went last to my endocronologist, my levels weren't quite up to par... but they were close to being " normal " > Are you taking Synthroid, Levothroid, Levoxyl, Unithroid, or what brand, > Jillian? Guest guest
Chrissy, Hashimoto's is considered to be the major cause of hypothyroidism. It is an auto-immune disease of the thyroid.Often, those who suffer from this have bouts of both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism until the thyroid settles down into hypothyroidism. hugs, Feisty(ThyroFeisty) Question > Hello, what is hashimotos thyroiditis?? Guest guest
Hey everyone, I have a question, people with hypothyroidism, do your ankles swell?? Mine are so darn swollen today so I'm keeping them elevated and that helps. HUGS Chrissy
Guest guest
Absolutely, Chrissy. It could also be low adrenals, too, as the adrenals produce aldosterone which helps regulate fluid balance. And since the thyroid and adrenal issues so frequently go hand in hand, it's not out of the question. A year ago when I was extremely hypo, my feet and ankles swelled up like balloons after being on them for long periods of time. It sent me to the doc and this is when I finally got synthetic T3 to add to my T4. I just didn't know then that my adrenals were screaming for help, too! Keep them up and drink extra water! Flush!! Guest guest
Chrissy, I am not sure if swollen feet is a hypothyroid only issue. I have hypothyroidism but I also have a weight issue and diabetes. However, I do have that problem as well as other health issues that may be linked to my thyroid. Also welcome to the group. I am from PA. Hugs, Robin Hello Robin and thanks for the welcome. I also have diabetes and weight issues. The swelling is better, if I'm on my feet alot my ankles swell a bit, but the minute I evevate them for an hour they are back down thank God. Janet Thanks Janet! I have kept my feet up and knew to drink extra water to make myself pee more, that helps gets excess fluid off of you. I hate this, I am awaiting radioactive iodine and have no thyroid and I have been off of all of my thyroid meds now for over 7 weeks. I am miserable. I'll be glad when its over and I can have my thyroid meds back! HUGS Chrissy

Janet Not soon enough! I have my TSH checked June 7th and if it dropped enough I can go ahead and have the radioactive iodine, if not have to get it checked June 14th and the Dr. said it will for sure be ready by then. I'll check with my Dr. when I have my lab work about when I can go back on thyroid medicine after my radiation. I'm miserable, have a headache everyday and no energy. But I'm hanging in there! Guest guest
I'd err on the side of caution and make the call. Just explain that you're not sure what stages you may be going through before surgery and want the doc to be aware of what is going on... that way you won't get labeled as a hypochondriac, as so many of us are... and will be able to ease your mind. Thanks! I am getting of the computer in a few minutes and calling. Thanks to everyone who answered my question. I appreciate it very much!
