Guest guest
Hi all, A few days ago I read a post about someone's child having a lot of sitmming and whether it was coincidental with the goat yogurt (on Lyris list). So here is my take on this: My son has been on SCD for 9 months, doing really well, but I just could not figure out why he kept stimming and stimming when this was an " activity " that had always had a minor presence in his life. I suspected the yogurt, but with it came huge improvements as well, so it was hard to " give it up " . I introduced goat yogurt at about the 10-12 week mark on SCD and he made huge improvements but with that came the stimming " wave " . I stopped and started twice (with about 7-9 days rest in between)and kept him on the yogurt up until about 10 days ago and then introduced enzymes (1/2 cap with each major meal--Digest Gold). I have to report that his stimming has greatly and noticeably decreased and his digestive system is still intact, I would suspect due to the enzymes. This particular enzyme product has some probiotic in it, so this is the only way he is getting some type of probiotic at this time. I may re-introduce the goat yogurt in a few months and see what happens, but for now, this seems to be the way to go to address the stimming. Words are clearer (severe dyspraxia--our MAJOR bump in the road), no rigidity--and of course, everything seems easier now that he has been 100% potty trained since November'03. Please remember this is just our experience and not all kids react with major stimming to the goat yogurt. This does not mean I have given up on the yogurt, I am simply suspending it until we find his system is better able to tolerate it. In my view, the stimming was getting in the way of his progress--and believe me he has made incredible progress over the last year--expressively, getting better, but it's where he mostly struggles. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to everyone! Mari (son 3.9 yrs old, ASD-HFA, SCD 9 months)
