Guest guest
Some kids don't tolerate the almond flour (phenols? salicylates?).......... you may want to try pecan flour (notice the name of this list and the website? ).... or hazelnut flour is another possible alternative. Patti, mom to Katera, SCD 8 months ----- Original Message ----- Has anyone seen an allergic reaction to Almond Flour?
Guest guest
Hi, Please please test pecans first. My son had a severe reaction and was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. Doing fine now. He seemed to tolerate all the other nuts and his Igg test said pecans were ok. It was utlitmately my mistake. Please be careful and test first. Guest guest
Pecans should not inherently have any higher incidence of allergic reaction..... in fact, most kids here have tolerated them much more easily than almonds. Naturally, any food could have the potential for anaphylactic reaction but there's no need for everyone to be suspect of pecans in particular because of this. Always use your own judgment.... and it is probably wise to introduce any new food in small amounts. There's always a chance that something else..... mold or something??...... could have contaminated those pecans, too. Sorry to hear about your son's reaction. Guest guest
It's a huge concern to me that some of the DAN doctors are putting patients on SCD...... but without good support..... and without a lot of experience and knowledge about how to implement it. It's too bad that DAN can't get the word out that they need to send people HERE.... and to the pecanbread website. I hope you'll try again ....... and yes, the reaction to almonds has happened with a number of other kids..... especially those that are sensitive to salicylates (I believe almonds are rather high in them). Since peanuts and other nuts aren't really related (peanuts are a legume), it may be a coincidence that he had reactions to both..... but definitely take note that the reason this listserve and the information website are named " pecanbread " for exactly that reason..... many don't tolerate the almonds. You say you " think " the allergic reaction was to the almonds...... so obviously you won't want to tempt fate.... but I wonder if he was just getting really toxic from die-off and the fact that he was so constipated? Hang in there and ask lots of questions from the great parents here. Patti, mom to Katera, SCD 8 months ----- Original Message ----- My son tried the SCD diet about 4 months ago but the DAN Doctor at the time did not say anything about the intro diet and not to start the nut flour at first. So my son ended up in the ER twice for constipation and an allergic reaction we think to the almond flour. Has anyone had this reaction? I am afraid to try another nut due to his peanut allergy and now Almond.
Guest guest
Hi, I'm new and have a desire to understand all this stuff. Many talk about sensitivity to many foods and Patti you mentioned DAN. Do people use the B6 (and B complex) with magnesium? Also, has there been research to do with the D6D enzyme that is missing from many people's systems and how this can affect our systems in relation to ASD? Thanks for being there. " Lynn, Many people on this list continue to use DAN! (or other doctor) recommended supplements. We encourage everyone to use SCD legal supplements. We do not specifically discuss any particular types of supplement programs because there are so many variables among kids and not all of the kids on this list have ASD. There are really good groups on Yahoo for discussing other biomedical options. ABMD is a good list. You might try asking about the D6D enzyme and it's possible relationship to autism on that list. On this list, we really try to focus on helping people implement the SCD correctly. The rest is really beyond our abilities. ABMD has several doctors and researchers as well as parents among the members. Jody mom to -5.0 and -7.
