Guest guest
Hello and Happy New Year! We are ringing in the New Year today with the 1st day of our 4th week on the diet...woohoo!I've finally gotten a few of the recipes down pretty well, including the yogurt now that I followed the " coffee filter drip technique " that was posted this past week...it now turns out like custard instead of watered-down ricotta cheese, and it's sooo good! Regarding the yogurt, one of my girls loves it and the other can't tolerate it yet (dairy-wise, she was having a hard time falling asleep at night and the post-nasal drip sound came back...so we'll try again at 12 weeks) and I wanted to try freezing it in an ice cream maker or baking it in the pancakes, etc. My question is whether or not this would kill the bacteria by extreme temps and defeat the purpose of using it? I almost think that with a few egg whites I could bake some meringue cookies out of it. Next question is regarding the cooking of veggies...if I bake the carrots and zucchini in a meat loaf, is it enough to grate them and add them to the beef, or do they have to be cooked 1st then added as a puree? (They'll be in a 350 degree oven for an hour.) Same question for the sneaky pancakes, do they have to be cooked first, or is cooking them on a hot griddle enough? And the last question...I've been using a T. of plain, pure flax oil everyday to help clear up their dry cuticles and some alligator skin on their arms, and it's working really well over the last 2 weeks. I've read that it's not recommended as it may cause too much ALA in the system, but they were pretty deficient to start. I'm curious if anyone else is giving flax oil or another type of essential fatty acid? (I see that's on the agenda for the Pittsburg Fighting Autism conference!) This list has been great! Thanks so much! --Rose (Mom to (10) and (7) now off Miralax!, both ASD)

" First a question for you... are you using goat milk and CP starter or are you using cow milk? As for an answer to your question. Freezing will kill some, but not all of the beneficial bacteria. Cooking it will kill all of them. Yogurt makes baked good taste great, but they have no beneficial bacteria benefits. ------------------- " Next question is regarding the cooking of veggies...if I bake the carrots and zucchini in a meat loaf, is it enough to grate them and add them to the beef, or do they have to be cooked 1st then added as a puree? " This is fine I think. Baking in an oven for that long should cook them thoroughly. -------------------- " Same question for the sneaky pancakes... is cooking them on a hot griddle enough? " For this, I would have to say NO. For the sneaky pancakes, the ingredients are all pre-cooked. The length of time it takes to cook a pancake isn't long enough for a vegetable to be well-cooked. ------------ For the flaxseed oil issue, please check Elaine's official site and read the information on flax seeds and flax seed oil. http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info There is a search engine. Type in " flax seeds " and " flax seed oil " to find the info you need. Jody mom to -5.0 and -7.
