Janie,

Growing up near Sugarbush I never realized how that name sounds until just

now. I think I am going to try to get my sister to find out the origin of

the name. One thing you will love is the base lodge where they have a huge

fireplace that everyone sits around in leather chairs. It is very much what

you would imagine a ski lodge to be; something in the movies.

I am so excited I cannot wait! My contract here ends December 31st..so when I

come back I won't have a job except for a week and don't even care....It' has

been so long since we actually went somewhere.....

I lost it because of the IGAN. The regulation specifically states

Glomerulonephritis (or Chronic Nephritis) as being disqualifying. I was

hoping the Air Force would either retire me or allow me to continue flying.

The one thing that I didn't want was to be forced to change jobs. I guess I

had such a difficult time with the decision because I was being told by the

military doctors that my flying career and Air Force career was over. In

fact I had 3 letters from doctors recommending me for medical retirement.

Honestly, I am okay with the decision I just don't agree with it. I think

what happened (from talking to the president of my medical board) was that

my medical records were not allowed to be seen by the board just the 3

letters and I think the 3 letters did not adequately specify my condition.

This was because everyone thought my biopsy and labs would be seen by the

board when they were not. The one good thing is that the president of the

board told me that my future medical care had a lot to do with the decision

and that if had not been in the Air Force as long as I have been that I

would have just been separated without any benefits. Right now my 24 hour

urinalysis is being tested for albumin which is a specific form of protein.

I will know next week the amount I do have. From there my Nephrologist is

going to write me another letter and I am going to appeal my case to the

board. The reason I am getting the albumin checked is because when albumin

and red blood cells are constant (which mine are) the regulations say that I

can not stay in the military. Please keep in mind that being in the Air

Force requires me to be able to live in field conditions (tents) without

constant medical care. Since I am not able to eat whatever and that I do

need constant follow-up with my doctors the Air Force says it is more cost

beneficial for them to have me out of the Air Force then in it. Also being

disabled in the military is completely different than the civilian world in

that a civilian employer would not consider me disabled. So the bottom line

is that I have nothing but time to wait and see what the board will decide

and wait and see what job I will get.

It was an early snow. It's all melting today, thank goodness!

, I wanted to be a pilot when I first enrolled in the Forces years ago.

That quickly got nixed because I had severely colour-deficient vision, and I

ended up in the Navy component of the Canadian Forces instead (they should

even have disqualified me from that for the same reason, but they overlooked

it). I know it seems hard now, but with anything military, there are always

so many things around the corner that could happen to ground someone from

flying, and from doing other adventurous things too if in the other

services. It happens to a lot of people at some point, as it did to me, but

I know it's still hard to accept when it does happen. You do eventually get

over it though. There are still plenty of interesting, useful jobs that can

be done in the Air Force that don't involve being flying crew. At one point

in my career, I was offered the possibility of becoming an administration

officer in the Air Force component. I turned it down because I said to

myself, I don't want to wear the blue if I can't be a pilot. Too bad,

because I could have been right in the thick of things as a squadron admin

officer - not flying, but running a lot of things on the ground that made

the flying possible, including being in the Gulf War and other theatres of

operations. Could you possibly fly privately? You might still be able to get

a private pilot's license.

Thank you so much. I have been put through the ringer but it has taught me

a lot and I am in a weird way glad it happened. Before this I was finding

myself getting caught-up in trying to do everything and anything and giving

my all to everything. I was not taking time to enjoy the journey nor taking

time to reflect the experiences but rather looking for the next one. Now

that I have looked back my family has had to make many sacrifices to

accommodate me and I think it is now time that I put them first. Yes I

would greatly appreciate a prayer for retirement. Thank you!

Hi ,

You really have been through the ringer haven't you? If I read your message

correctly, your prayer request would be that the board would retire you

instead of reassign you?

I wanted to check to be sure that was your objective before praying for

that.

I wouldn't mind a bit of snow or rain, right now!! We are experiencing 30

degrees celsius, and one of the longest droughts in Australian history!!

Water restrictions level 5. No outside watering until further notice!
