Hi

Nice to hear from you again. I am so sorry that you have had to fight

to keep your position in the Air Force and you must be devastated to

have been grounded. I wish there were something more comforting I could

say to you, and I don't suppose the fact that you are being offered an

alternative position is any consolation to you right now, particularly

as you obviously adore your flying. Hopefully you will win your battle

to get airborne again, and know that this group is here for you to let

off some steam should you need to. Try to keep focused , and take

each day as it comes.

With very best wishes

It has been a long time!

Hello everyone,

I am finally back. I am really sorry for not being an active member

of this group. Believe me I would much rather have been in a

position to be able to talk to everyone than go through what I have

this past month and half. Those of you that remember me I am in the

United States Air Force and I was fighting the Air Force about

keeping me in the Air Force. Well I guess I fought too hard because

they kept me in but they are forcing me to change jobs. They

grounded me and are not going to let me fly anymore!!!! I wish they

had shot me instead. They are going to force me to change jobs and

it looks like they are going to force me to move. Anyway, I am still

fighting this battle and I just wanted to say, " Hi " to everyone.

A while back I remember reading that someone in this group is from

Vermont. I am also from Vermont and I would love to talk to you. I

apologize for not writing then but I was not able too.

Hi ,

It is so good to hear from you again. I am so sorry though for the battle

you have fought. Your heart must just be broken to be told you can't fly. I

am so sorry you have had to go through this ordeal. We are just going to

pray that you can get placed in a position you can at least enjoy and not one

you can barely tolerate. The verse that popped into my mind as prayed for

you is Proverbs 3:5-6 which says, " Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and

lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and

He will direct your path. " And He will direct you to exactly the place He

doesn't pass through His hands first. I am glad to hear from you again

. Things will turn out exactly as they should.

Hi ,

Thank you for the kind words. Unfortunately, I have only stayed in

the Air Force so I could fly. Now that I can't fly I really don't

want to stay in. The problem is they have me until 2004 and can do

whatever they want with me. More than likely I will become an

Identification Card maker or a towel guy at the gym. I am not sure

about anyone else but that sounds really exciting to me. I do take

each day as it comes and I thank God everyday for allowing me to be

blessed with the life that I do have.

Maybe it was me talking about visiting Vermont in December.....you had asked

about someone being from Vermont earlier. My husband and my families live

within a 15 mile radious and the holidays are really crazy....we drive 5 hours

to get there and then they (including Aunts/Uncles) expect us to hit all of

their houses and eat there too! So, this year we decided to take a trip for

Christmas...that way if there is any bickering it's our own fault!

One thing I have noticed since my Prednisone treatment and this disease is that

my patience is very limited and I don't want to deal with anything negative so I

try to stay away from it.

Janie,

I had a really difficult time with Prednisone. Especially coming off

of it. In fact my doctor prescribed me Zoloft to help with my mood.

It has really really helped me. Not only am I now able to relax I am

now back to my normal self.

You will really love Vermont. If you need any ideas on where to go I

lived there for 18 years and all of my family is there now. I warn

you that it is very cold and my dad got 9 inches of snow Sunday. :-

I know...they are having a winter storm right now!!!! I LOVE the

cold/snow....(Pierre..remember I live in Dallas TX where it does not snow, so I

don't have to shovel it...if I did ,,,I would probably feel different)

We are going to Sugarbush.

Also...I am on Zoloft too! It has been a tremendous help I actually feel like

my normal happy self again. I had no idea how depressed I actually was.

How long have you been in the Air Force? I'm an Air Force Brat! My Dad was in

22 years! I was born in Lakenheath England, spent a few years at Sumter, S.C.

and then he retired to SE Texas!.

It was an early snow. It's all melting today, thank goodness!

, I wanted to be a pilot when I first enrolled in the Forces years ago.

That quickly got nixed because I had severely colour-deficient vision, and I

ended up in the Navy component of the Canadian Forces instead (they should

even have disqualified me from that for the same reason, but they overlooked

it). I know it seems hard now, but with anything military, there are always

so many things around the corner that could happen to ground someone from

flying, and from doing other adventurous things too if in the other

services. It happens to a lot of people at some point, as it did to me, but

I know it's still hard to accept when it does happen. You do eventually get

over it though. There are still plenty of interesting, useful jobs that can

be done in the Air Force that don't involve being flying crew. At one point

in my career, I was offered the possibility of becoming an administration

officer in the Air Force component. I turned it down because I said to

myself, I don't want to wear the blue if I can't be a pilot. Too bad,

because I could have been right in the thick of things as a squadron admin

officer - not flying, but running a lot of things on the ground that made

the flying possible, including being in the Gulf War and other theatres of

operations. Could you possibly fly privately? You might still be able to get

a private pilot's license.

Thank you so much for the words of encouragement. Also thank you for

reminding me of that proverb, it is one of my favorites. Oddly enough I

have been more calm since the decision by the Air Force was made. Prior to

that I was really really anxious all the time and very much on edge. I was

letting every little thing get to me and I was overly emotional. I am sure

a lot of that had to do with Prednisone withdrawal. Man am I ever glad to

get off of that. Now if I can only loose the 10 pounds that I gained.

Thanks Again!!!!

Pierre,

I am glad to hear about the snow melting. Also thanks for the kind words!

Unfortunately I am not a pilot just a crew member. I do have many other

interests, it is just most of them do not include the Air Force. There are

a few jobs that I could see myself doing. The only problem is that I do not

have a choice in the matter. The only choice is that I get to rank order

several choices and the Air Force gets to pick for me. Air Force needs come

first. By the way I am okay with that. Surprisingly, my spirits are good.

My biggest stress was the unknown. Now that I know what I am facing I am

better able to prepare. Before I was trying to plan for 3 different

decisions that the Air Force could have made. The one the made by the way

was the least favorable. :-)

With regards to you and your dialysis. I thought of you often when I was

away and read how you were dealing with everything. I have to admit that I

really admired how strong you are and have been. Thanks for being so

inspirational.

Janie,

You will absolutely love Surgarbush. Especially during the

holidays. I know the area pretty well. My sister lives about 10

minutes from there and my Dad as a kid was a ski instructor there. I

would be more than happy to provide you any information that you may

need.

Zoloft has also changed my life. My wife says she finally sees the

old me.

I have been in the Air Force for 12 years and have been here in OKC

for 11 of those 12 years.

Please do send any info you think will be useful!!! I have never been, nor do I

know anyone who has been there.

I was curious because in 1986 I was on a " hop " from Fort Polk, LA to

Medical Center in San and there was an Air Force man on the plane with

me and my mother....his name was too (not that there can only be one

)...your writing style is just like he spoke. I remember well, because I

was scared to death...I was going to have emergency Spinal surgery...my spine

was collapsing! I just had to ask.

Thanks....

Hopefully you be be close to the crew you have been working with. My Dad was in

Electronic Warfare.

Janie,

I hope your surgery went well and I wish that were me but I was still in

Vermont in 1986. Give me a couple of days and I will try to e-mail you some

links and some points of contacts for activities.

Just 10! It will come off in no time!!!

Re: It has been a long time!

Hi ,

It is so good to hear from you again. I am so sorry though for the battle

you have fought. Your heart must just be broken to be told you can't fly.

I

am so sorry you have had to go through this ordeal. We are just going to

pray that you can get placed in a position you can at least enjoy and not

one

you can barely tolerate. The verse that popped into my mind as prayed for

you is Proverbs 3:5-6 which says, " Trust in the Lord with all your heart,

and

lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and

He will direct your path. " And He will direct you to exactly the place He

knows you need to be. Remember too that nothing can come into your life

that

doesn't pass through His hands first. I am glad to hear from you again

. Things will turn out exactly as they should.

I think we have a lot in common!

Re: It has been a long time!

Janie, I have patience problems and I am not on prednisone! I just think I

don't have time for this s**t, and I don't have the inclination to put up

with this s**t.

Hi ,

You really have been through the ringer haven't you? If I read your message

correctly, your prayer request would be that the board would retire you

instead of reassign you?

I wanted to check to be sure that was your objective before praying for that.

Janie, I live in Ohio, (USA) and you can have the snow that I woke up to

this AM. I hate it and the older I get the more I complain about it. As

far as I'm concerned the only good part about the snow today is it puts me

in the mood to Christmas shop. :)

But Janie, just for you, I'll go out and throw a snowball in your honor

today, maybe I'll hit my boss with it!

Connie,USA :)

, I'm sorry if you've already mentioned this fact, but did you loose

your flying privileges due to the IgAN or your health issues? I've notice

with each posting you appear to be coming more to grips with the situation.

We are thinking about you during this transition in your life. Keep us

posted. Connie, USA

Re: It has been a long time!

Marty you ARE a card! You made me laugh out loud this time. I always hesitate

before I tell someone where exactly it is...I just say Vermont. I probably

shouldn't admit this but my husband calls me sugar britches sometimes and that

came out once....you should have seen the look I got!
