This is what we have been doing with SCD for years. When I became active on the autism list I almost lost my mind! There was input from EVERYBODY about casein and goat yogurt and cow yogurt and on and on. I surely do not want this to start all over again so I have tried to go along with the mindsets on this list because autism is fairly new to me. I have never seen a group of patients who have had more theories inflicted upon them and do I know if they are all relevant? No I do not. But if you want to know what I intended, you can reread page 15, 3rd paragraph, you can see that I do not know (nor does anyone else) exactly what the yogurt is accomplishing except that it gives the diet an excellent source of nutrition and diversity and, hopefully, will help alter the type of bacteria and their metabolic actions. Are we seeing progress without yogurt? It seems that we are so it is possible to follow SCD without it. However, there is still a need in the process for some (not lots) of healthy type of bacteria like Lactobacillus acidophilus to be given a chance to take up residence. And again, they usually should have a source of lactose and most probiotics containing Lactobacillus acidophilus due have tiny amounts. But here we go again with parents scared out of their mind about casein!!!!!>>
