Joanie - silly poet Z. - Pred by any other name, still the same. - like Joyce said it's a gorgeous weekend here... hopefully Texas weather was as beautiful and helped you enjoy your hectic softball weekend. , we are sounding more and more alike... I loved how you said you're the only one w/ a blank schedule, just because you don't work doesn't mean you have a blank schedule... that said I'm the pot calling the kettle black. I hear you and feel you and know what you mean about slowing down and fear. Sher - I can't say where I am w/ this... Like I said it's a steroid pack so you take the most the first day and as I got it late Friday so I started taking them before dinner and over the next couple hours before bed had the whole first days worth (like the intrux

said). By morning, my throat still hurt, but the intense pain was lessened and my ears, lymph nodes had improvement. My husband took the kids to one of those kids build workshops at Lowe's and I stayed home. Missing yoga and the YMCA for the 4th time this week (that's right zero workout this week). My husband made me a smoothie before he left and I slowly nursed it and hacked up a lot of yellow and even a little bloody junk. I've been taking all my NAC and added back in the mucinex to really help get this crud up. After much hacking and blowing my nose I seemed to clear things out and after some energy from the smoothie and yes more Pred I started feeling better, much, much better. It felt so good to have relief from the pain I just can't tell you. My ears felt fine, my lymph nodes felt fine and no more pain in my throat... it was like I was healed! And I don't know if it was just so exciting to be rid of all

that or the beautiful day or that fact that it's the start of my daughters spring break or maybe it was all just the Pred high, but we did it all yesterday. I cleaned up dishes from the past couple day, stripped the bed, did laundry, showered and we took the kids to Chuck E. Cheese for lunch. Then I kept my appointment to get my hair cut and eyebrows done. After that I planted elephant ear bulbs and helped my daughter plant more tulips in her flower garden. Once my son got up we played w/ worms, played on the new swingset my husband and Dad just built and then I grilled out dinner and we ate out on the back deck. Once I cleaned up from dinner (did I say I felt all jacked up on Pred, yes, another couple doses and I'm feeling great), we all loaded up and went to WalMart to get groceries, etc. OK we might have gone overboard w/ the evening errands, but oh well, home unload,

get the kids ready for bed, go look at the moon and stars w/ the telescope (present to my kids from my parents at Christmas) and then the kids are off to bed. We relaxed, leafed thru some magazines, watched a little tv, and even stayed up to watch Saturday Night Live, which we never do because that show is no good anymore, but Peyton Manning was the host so we had to. That ended at 1am, can you believe it? Anyway, my throat did start to hurt again right before bed and hurt a little over night and this morning. After the kids and the dog waking us up, I'm up and hacking again. Lots of spitting, hacking and nose blowing of lots of yellow stuff. Now that that's done and I've had more Pred, breakfast and lots of water, I'm feeling okay again. The problem is that I don't feel like I'm getting better, it's just the Pred. Well, I know I needed the Pred to relieve the swelling/inflammation because I just couldn't

handle it anymore and the struggle w/ that had me so down and I was making myself more sick trying to relieve the pain. Hopefully, w/ that relieved I can get the gunk out and it will be resolved by the time the steroid pack is done. We'll see what tomorrow feels like and I may have to go in to see my Pulmo, instead of the Primary. Like I said it's my daughters spring break, it's beautiful out and my sister comes in town on Wednesday. Off to check the kids laundry and get started on something else. Hope everyone else is well and again thanks to all who have chimed in... I hope I didn't miss anyone... I do so feel the caring. Kerry,

I may have to go in to see my Pulmo, instead of the Primary.

I think you should. Yellow is not a good color for your lungs!

Kerry,

I had to talk my primary dr into giving me a pred dose pack in Feb. However, it did not work for me (I thought it was) and I went back to see him and he gave me more pred. 40 for 4 days, 30, 20, then 10 and then it's over. It took that to get well. I think I am still flying high now I finished it 2 weeks ago. There is no way a pulmonary dr will ever see me when I am sick. I am not that lucky. Take care! It takes us longer to get over these viruses! Kerry...I got a chuckle out of your reply. Just like a woman! You said "I can't say where I am with this" and then went on for a hundred paragraphs telling how it is! I do the same thing. Please read here I am not being critical! At any rate, I do hope you continue to get better!

Sher, It's not like I said I just don't know what to say and then wrote all that... I said I don't know where I am w/ this and well... this is why... blah, blah, blah. It was a demonstration of why. I told you the first time I ever emailed you it's beyond me to ever write a short email... it's just so like me that's all. And the only reason this email is kinda short is because I've written 5 other replies before this. Kerry,

I was too busy hacking up crud. I don't know how you do this on a regular basis Joyce.

It is the nastiest thing. I hate it. And it is exhausting! I am real congested right now and feel yucky. I spend a good part of my day working to keep from drowning in snot! Now, that having been said, would you like to have lunch?

When your company is gone, give me a call. Hopefully we can set something up. You sound so busy. I have my daughter and twin three year old twins here for a few days this week. Those two are live wires. It is such a blessing when naptime and bedtime comes around.

You can call me when you want to schedule a meeting. I would love to meet you.

Hugs, Joyce

Yes, Kerry, I remember you said short emails are not your thing....I read your emails. You've got lots to say and there are lots of us here to listen. hugs

And the only reason this email is kinda short is because I've written 5 other replies before this. Wordy, wordy, wordy and did I mention long winded (ain't that the irony) KerryIPF '01

Like I said it's a steroid pack so you take the most the first day and as I got it late Friday so I started taking them before dinner and over the next couple hours before bed had the whole first days worth (like the intrux said). And I don't know if it was just so exciting to be rid of all that or the beautiful day or that fact that it's the start of my daughters spring break or maybe it was all just the Pred high, but we did it all yesterday. OK we might have gone overboard w/ the evening errands, but oh well, home unload, get the kids ready for bed, go look at the moon and stars w/ the telescope (present to my kids from my parents at Christmas) and then the kids are off to bed. Well, I know I needed the Pred to relieve the swelling/inflammation because I just couldn't handle it anymore and the struggle w/ that had me so down and I was making myself more sick trying to relieve the pain. Kerry,

It does sound like maybe whatever you have is moving up and out. I'll keep my finger crossed. Don't hesitate to call the pulmo if you have any doubts though.

My pulmo is the same yours is. He told me he wants to see me anytime I feel I need to be seen. His office staff has told me I'm on their list of folks they see "no matter what". He told me that we need to have a "healthy respect" for any type of fibrotic lung disease. Things can turn on a dime, infections can set in very quickly in lungs as compromised as ours are. I feel very fortunate having him looking out for my well being. He's one thing I will miss when I move to NC! Hope you are feeling more like yourself really soon!

Jane,

This is a one time shot w/ the pred... I'll see how I feel by the end of today regarding calling my Pulmo. I assumed I would just have to call my primary (and before that I used to go to urgent care whenever I was sick because I didn't have a primary from 2001 - 2005). My pulmo said no, I could come see him anytime for anything, flu shots (before 2-3 years ago I'd gotten them elsewhere), colds, etc.

Beth, Thank you... it's nice to bounce these things off you folks... hard to decide when to go and when not to go. Tiresome to always be going to the doctor, but I know we have to be careful. Greatful to have doctors that make me feel good about seeing them, glad yours are that way too. Kerry IPF '01 Beth wrote: Kerry, It does sound like maybe whatever you have is moving up and out. Hey Kerry!

Hope you are better today. Last week when I went to my primary doctor

for my 3 week recheck, the nurse told me: " You always get this once a

year. " I didn't know she was keeping score. Yes, once a year I take

some prednisone. This year I dieted the whole time I took it and still

lost. Today my throat started feeling a little scratchy, immediately I

thought the worse and then I drove my pollenated (sp) car to the

automatic car wash and had instant relief! Jane IPF 12/1999

Kerry et al.,

Have you ever tried a Neti pot or nasal irrigator? I definitely feel

a difference everytime I use it. It never really cures my stopped up

nose, but I can breathe better for a short while after using it. Any

other testimonies out there re: nasal irrigation?
