Guest guest
I do massage and yoga for my headaches. I cannot take the medication for migraines as I am allergic to two of them and the third one interferes with my bum heart. So if I can catch the headaches early with massage, it usually keeps them to a minimum. Ok .. two type of headaches: 1. Headache hits you hard with a bang! try sitting on the side of the tub with your legs below the knee and your feet in hot water .. as hot as you can stand it for 3 to 5 minutes. What this does is heat up the lower half of your body. The heart then tries to regulate your body temperature and pulls the cooler blood from the head and upper body quickly to the lower extremities. This lowers the pressure in the head making the headache lessen. Doing the dishes in hot water can help too .. holding the hands in hot water has the same outcome .. blood is pulled away from the brain, lessening vessel pressure and thus the pain. If you don't want to do the dishes, try filling the sink with hot, hot water and add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the water. The vanilla is a kind of aromatherapy that helps with headaches. 2. Headache creeps up on you gradually getting worse. Begin by relaxing .. sitting upright in a chair, do not lie down at first! If you lie down, more blood goes to the head increasing pressure in the blood vessels. Try and relax your facial muscles and neck muscles. Begin by putting two fingers above the bridge of your nose.. right at the edge of your eyebrows. Now slowly press in and walk your fingers straight up your forehead towards your hairline. About an inch or less above your eyebrows you will feel a firm bump under the skin. Press down on this area for about 30 seconds then slowly release the pressure. You will know you are on the right spot as it will be sensitive to the touch and hurt just a bit. Continue massaging your whole forehead in this fashion, starting at the eyebrows and walking the fingers upwards. Now do this same finger-walking on the back of your neck .. starting at the hairline and working down towards your shoulders. Using both hands at the same time works well for this. Massaging the head works well also ... walking the fingers through the hair. Using a lightly scented oil will help as well. & makes a baby oil that is lightly scented .. the oil has chamomile in it. It is a light oil and the chamomile will help you relax. It is absorbed through the skin. You can add other essential oils to this base of baby oil for other scents for aromatherapy massage. Hope this helps .. " Rion "
