Can they refuse to test the child after mom requests eval?>>

NO NO NO NO they cannot refuse a parent's request if it is in writing. ...

These sound great! ... ... ... ...

<<<The plan is to try this for six weeks and then if no improvement is seen

As far as I know, if testing is requested, they have to do it, within a

certain timeline.

This sounds like yet another school that is dragging their feet on helping

<<< The problem has been going on for years. The last years teacher

attended and told about working with the mom and the unsuccessful outcome.

Yet the principal said since this was the first time the child had been

brought to her attention there would be no testing at this time. >>>

They have to do testing if requested ... ... ...

<<< The SLP said she wasn't an expert but it sounded like there was a problem

somewhere in the brain and getting the knowledge out in a format required by

the school. I asked for at least an OT screen but they replied that was

impossible without a full special Ed eval. >>>

My opinion is that we are dealing with either ADHD or CAPD. He also has

lots of letter reversals and problems copying correctly so it could be

something else. That's why we think the testing is so important.

My thanks to you and Celeste and the others who posted here. The letters

Celeste suggested the mom write will be going out tomorrow. I know this

wasn't strictly " on topic " but I have learned so much about the special ed

process and many of our kids have these (CAPD and ADHD) as well that I knew

the knowledge of how we should proceed would be available here. Thank you

to everyone for your indulgence of this thread.
