Kay,

I caught it but was planning to post later. Phonic Ear is notorious for

chronically down systems. Been there, done that for years. Phonak, hopefully,

from what I've

heard is not. just got his Phonak w/ Microlink. He just had his aid (he

can only wear one due to no hearing in other ear) adjusted and is constantly

walking

around asking, " What's that noise? " He heard the dishwasher drain for the first

time, the fan whirling, crickets, etc. It's the first time he's ever heard high

frequency sounds. He's a bit distractable now due to the new noises, but he's

soooo happy and responds so appropriately to sound now relative to before. I

want to pump

as much info into him as I can while he's got this hearing aided like it is.

She's limited the maximum gain to a very small boost so that he won't be

overamplified like

before. He also has super compression on and no longer holds his ears and

winces from loud noises. The aud said that his settings that he preferred defy

the rules of

how auds would normally set the aids, but that he hears so much better with his

preferences than with the standard setting that she lets his opinion rule. She's

an

incredible audiologist tho a rather unique individual to deal with. Her way

rules and parents should butt out. She deals directly with the child... is

her client.

She works with him and not me. Kind of hard to be excluded (she does provide

information as needed) but he's been much more vocal about his likes and

dislikes and has

taken total responsibility for his equipment. She is enabling him instead of

disabling him. Such a difference for him. She actually showed him how to

program the aids

and he kept reading all of the computer prompts to her as she was doing it to

make sure she wasn't doing it wrong. She worked an hour, tickled to have him so

involved.

Anyway....wish I were moving to San ! Congratulations to you guys!

Busy trying to undo the chaos around here for 's 9th bday party tomorrow!

AARRGGHH. Spent two days trying to bake a cake and icing he's not allergic to

that's

edible. Got the cake...still working on the icing.
