My Pain Management Physician and I agreed recently that it was time for me to

have another set of facet injections for the left side of my neck. I went to a

clinic I'd been to for a set of these once before in 2005 and everyone seemed

nice then and then again yesterday when I went it. Just before my procedure my

doctor came around to see how was I feeling and why my blood pressure was up. I

tolder her it was because I was nervous because each time I'd had once of these

procedures I always have to lay straight on my front and not move.

One time before, they covered up my head and my claustrophobia kicked in, she

told them to remove the covers around my head and everything was fine. This

time I lost it when they were prepping me on the table and I simply raised my

right hand slightly to remove the cloth covers that are that hospital blue that

doesn't let any light in. The only male nurse in the room grabbed my arm, held

it down and said don't move. I said get these covers off my face, NOW. My

doctor stepped in and said take the covers off his head. She told me I'd be

alright, to relax, and told the doc handling the anesthesia to give me more

(they didn't knock me completely out, just a kind of light sleep, which I never

really got to). My doctor also patted my back gently and told me everything

would be OK. The rest of the procedure went fine, they wheeled me out and a few

minutes later, I was picked up my by friend and driven home. Since I'd run out

of my pain meds, my doctor told me come in to her office first thing this

morning and she'd take care of it.

I didn't sleep most of the night due to extreme hot flashes coming and going and

just a general restlessness. I don't know if it was from the anesthesia, the

steroids, or the altercation with the heavy handed Godzilla nurse. I guess if I

have a point here, although you might think the doctor or head nurse is alway in

charge in a situation like this, YOU are, or should be.
