Great news Erna. Thanks for sharing it.

Over 6 feet tall eh? I guess having IgAN didn't stunt his growth any!

By the way, I love postings of good news. There's a tendency in any health

group such as this to focus on the negative and the bad news. This happens,

I think, because people with bad news are always concerned (justifiably),

but people with no news are really compelled to post about it. Similarly, we

have many people with heavy proteinuria in this group, not because this is

common with IgAN, but because mild IgAN doesn't really do anything unless

there is heavy proteinuria, and not having visible blood in the urine isn't

going to panic anybody. So, I keep thinking there's a vast pool of people

out there with mild, uneventful IgAN who we probably won't hear from for

another 20 years.

I posted some negative news about myself last month, but, keep in mind that,

had the internet and this group existed before, I could have posted no news

for over 20 years. And when it comes to kidney disease, no news is good news

: )

Pierre,

I love postings of good news too! Here's my good-news-posting for the day:

My proteinuria has been decreasing steadily over the past week as the Pred

finally kicked in. And it's down to " trace " now. Consequently, my swelling

has been going down, and I have gotten rid of nearly all 10kgs of all that

excess water I was lugging around. Now I weigh 45kgs (lost muscle while I

was ill), nice and skinny and feel like I could skip around! It is such a

relief feeling normal again, especially knowing that the next 2 months are

packed solid with training courses, research presentations and field

trips... including an eagerly awaited 2 week holiday in the US doing some

climbing, camping and kayaking with my bf :)

No news is good news holds true, but good news is good news too. :) (Hmm i'm

being silly now hehe)

Dear Erna

This is truly wonderful news, just what we like to hear. I pray too

that Josh continues this wonderful progress.

Nice to hear from you again.

The shoe DIDN'T Drop, or some good 911, 2002 news

Hi all,

Just wanted to report that inspite of all my increasing anxiety because

Josh

has been well for longer than I can remember, we saw his pediatrician

yesterday, and today his ped neph phoned. They are both pleased with

his

results of the last urine test. His P/C ratio went up a little, from 34

to

64 (it has been 565), but there was only a trace of blood. So the

pediatrician said we did not have to do a 24 hour urine collection!!

Yeah!

All of this even after 9 days at camp and having not taken meds

sometime.

So we continue to believe and pray for continuing good tests for all.

Nice one!! Lovely to get upbeat humorous messages that contain happy

news. You go skipping to your hearts content, we all deserve a time to

feel like this, and I rejoice with you.

Erna, I am the mother of , 18, diagnosed at 16. would be

sooooo jealous. He is 5'8 " and lifting weights 4 times a week to

build himself up. He too has been doing well, but again has decided

to take a protein supplement drink to help with muscle mass. Maybe

by the time our guys are all grown up there will be a cure for this

thing. Pam

Pam,

It might be advisable to check with your son's Nephrologist before drinking

the protein drink. Diet is always tailored according to the specific IgAN

patient's kidney function, but since for so many of us protein is limited, it

would be a good idea to check on it.

, I have knocked my brains out trying to get him to stop. All

I get is " YOu don't know everything " , " I know what I am doing " .

We'll see what happens on Tuesday at the neph's office. I am afraid

he is blowing his remission.
