Hello everyone

I am from Gallitzin, PA and so far i have not found a PA group.

I have alot of health problems and I want to learn more about them

and see how they relate to each other and effect each other.

I have: High blood pressure, Hypothyroidism, Major Depressive

disorder with panic attacks, Type 2 Diabetes, Degenerating spinal

arthritis, High triglycerides, Hearing impairment, Osteoarthritis,

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Psoriasis, and a possibility of Stickler's

Syndrome.

I think that is everything. Getting from point A to point B is

painful but, I can still get there it just takes me longer. Also I

am 200 lbs. overweight.

The only thing I know about the thyroid is that it effects other

organs of the body. Disorders can be linked to heredity. Mom taught

me this one-----not taking your medication for a long period of time

was like committing suicide----- at least that is what her doctor

said.

So any information in an easy to understand format would be

greatly appreciated. Thank-you.

Sincerely

~Robin~

Welcome Robin!

What you described is all interrelated.......Is your hypothyroidism due to

Hashimoto's?You have listed other auto-immune diseases, which having one,

you are more likely to have others.

Depression is very much linked to thyroid disease, I have had an article

printed on that and my battle with thyroid disease and hypothyroidism.High

blood pressure is often linked too, as is some of the other diseases you

have mentioned.Every cell in your body needs thyroid hormone to function, so

if your thyroid is not working right, you may have problems in any or all of

the body systems(including the brain)

Feel free to ask any or all questions, we have an excellent group here of

people who have lived and who are living with thyroid disease, and are so

willing to assist and support. We have those here, too, that will tell you of

the joys of getting the thyroid hormones optimized(right, ThyroGeek,

Pard?!)There is indeed hope !

Robin,

Everything that you've listed could actually be linked to the

hypothyroid..... do you have copies or your labs? what meds are you on

right now? For how long?

You are about to be bombarded with questions!!! heheheheh but welcome!

Robin,

Everything that you've listed, except for the diabetes, and it might be too, can all by tied to thyroid disorder.

Depression, fluid retention, high cholesterol, arthritic pain, memory lapses... all of them are symptoms of low thyroid...

I would REALLY love to see your labs!

Remember, each of us is different.. it may be these things aren't related to being hypo... but it would be nice to be sure. Many of us have found that taking Synthroid (a synthetic T4 only medication) doesn't work as well for us as Natural thyroid (that contains T4, T3, T2, T1 and calcitonin and is derived from Pig thyroids). The Natural thyroid (most popular brand name is Armour) contains all of the components that a normal thyroid produces and works a lot better for a majority of the folks that take it.....

You are due to see your doc next month. Would you be able to ask for some specific thyroid tests to see where you stand in that area? Do you think he might be open to switching to another thyroid med? Ask how he feels about Armour, and about Cytomel (synthetic T3 med). How you may or may not shift meds or doses would hinge on your labs... but I'm guessing that adding T3 by changing to Armour or adding Cytomel... might make a difference.... and if the depression, fluid retention, cholesterol and memory issues are related to thyroid... that could mean reducing those meds.....

Might be worth exploring further.....

Hey

Remember you asked for this when you reached the end of this. I currently do not have any copies of lab work I am however due for alot at the end of April so you'll have to wait for those.

Here is a list of medications that I take and what for:

Effexor XR 150 mg capsule at bedtime for depressio

Glipizide ER 10 mg tablet twice a day for diabetes

Prilosec OTR 20 mg in AM for weak pyloric muscle

Ibuprofen 800 mg tablet 4 x daily for arthritic pain

Lasix 20 mg tablet 3-4 tabs daily for fluid retention

Pravachol 20 mg tablet at bedtime for cholesterol

Methotrexate 2.5 mg tablet 4 tabs twice every Saturday for

Psoriatic arthritis

Folic Acid 1 mg tablet daily not sure why

Naproxen Sodium 550 mg tablet 3 x daily for tendonitis

Accupril 10 mg daily for high blood pressure

Synthroid 200 mcg. tablet in am Hypothyroid

Gemfibrozil 600 mg 2 x daily for high triglycerides

Metformin HCL 1000 mg tablet 2 x daily diabetes

As for how long since 1995 I believe for thyroid and diabetes. As for the others if I actually get a definitive diagnosis for Stickler's syndrome, it is a connective tissue disease and that would be since birth.

Since I moved up to Gallitzin I have only been seeing my family doctor and my retinal specialist. In July it will be two years since the move.

The obesity problem started after an injury put me out of movement for 6 mos. in 1986 I think. Have memory problems too, which is why I am not employed am on SSI.

Well at least thats a start on answering your questions.
