Guest guest
,You never mentioned how well the palatal lift works for you,I have had mine for 5yrs,and like American Express,I never leave home without it! I was told at the med.ctr. that I would not be able to wear it for long periods of time, that it would be very unconfortable. It took me about a day to get use to it.My voice is about 70% of what it use to be,with out it my voice is garbled, slurred, and not very audible.I think you and I are the only people in the group that have them.Do you have any problem with the lift,do you wear it all day? . Guest guest
I just wanted to add to the voice discussion that I have had pretty good results with botox injections in the larynx. It really eases the strain down there. On the palatal lift, I went in for a fitting, but the dentist and I agreed that with the gag, I could never handle all that stuff in my mouth. Guest guest
May I butt in on this topic? I would like to know if either of you wear dentures? I am interested in checking into this lift for hubby,,,, but he wears dentures, and loose ones at that. He doesn't have much gum for a good fit.....maybe a lift is out of the question for him then ?! Just a thought. Carol Glassman wrote: > > > I just wanted to add to the voice discussion that I have had pretty > good > results with botox injections in the larynx. Guest guest
Hi ,what I have is not a palatal lift in the true sense,as I understand it the real thing is like a beaver tail, mine is a full denture, but it goes higher in the roof of my mouth, and back further than a " normal " denture. As I said previously,it was made in 1991,and it is only out of my mouth for about 5 minutes a day,for cleaning,I even sleep with it in.Like yourself, without it,my voice is incomprehensible. Take care & keep smiling,Dave C828@... wrote: > > From: C828@... > > ,You never mentioned how well the palatal lift works for you,I have had > mine for 5yrs,and like American Express,I never leave home without it! Guest guest
Flora I haven't had my vocal chords checked yet. Do you have that done with a speech therapist or a throat specialist? My voice deteriorated rapidly twice, once with the flu, the second time with the interferon medication. Both times it was lack of volume, halting speech (like I needed a breath with every syllable, hoarse and slurred. I have improved quite a bit and most of the time it is just slurred and hoarse. Sometimes the sound is fairly clear but always by the end of the day it is hoarse. When I get real tired it is back to the halting speech with no volume. My doc wanted to see how much I improved before sending me to a speech therapist then when I last saw him he thought I was doing on my own what a speech therapist could do. I'm pretty bothered by it though even though it is improved somewhat. I think I'd like to check out the palate lift (as has suggested) and the vocal chord idea also. It would really bother me if I didn't check them out and later found that I could have been talking much better all along. All I know is that I have a weak tongue. I'm not sure about the rest. I think we have to be a little vocal (no pun intended) about what treatments we'd like to look into. Thanks for the suggestion. > , > Have you had your vocal cord look at. Guest guest
, I go to an ENT doctor who works with my nero in fact they are both there when I have the procedure done. I have one every year I try to last as long as possible. Insurance pays for all of it thank god. My voice is slurred to but only breathy when I get tried and talk to much which is all the time if you talk to my husband. Good luck Flora
