Guest guest
, here's a reference someone sent on prednisone and memory problems. http://www.msnews.org/premem.shtml I, too, feel my memory is much, much poorer than it was a year ago when I began taking prednisone. I don't seem to juggle things as well, either, or to deal with conflicting appointments, etc. A year ago, before prednisone, I felt extremely competent, extremely sharp. Now, I don't. I don't know if that is simply the effect of being one year older, of loss of confidence after illness, of laziness, or if there's a direct link to the disease and its effects. I keep thinking of another possibility: High blood pressure seems to be related to cognitive loss; the effect is said to be cumulative rather than immediately discernible. High blood pressure and prednisone use are often linked, according to what I've read. (My hepatologist says he isn't aware of any such relationship.) My blood pressure was high to begin with. I wonder if "brain fog," for some few of us, may be related to high blood pressure. Harper

Guest guest
Hey, I read your e-mail and I too started noticing subtle mistakes and forgetfulness. I attributed it to being 44 and so much on my mind, but I did mention it to my gastro. Dr. and he had my ammonia level checked. This can cause brain fog, mine was doubled and he placed me on Lactulose which is a laxative to pull the ammonia from your system. I go in 2 weeks to have it checked again to see if the med has improved it. I hate the Lactulose but better than making mistakes at work or home. Guest guest
: Sounds just like my brain fog. When I type (I'm a programmer also) I can't seem to get the sequence together. You know, while becomes something like hilew or elihw :< I get some interesting compile errors these days I now have to write everything down, or else I'll forget it. I have a hard time remembering what I was working on the previous day, this was never a problem with me before. So, , I would have to say YES, you got the brain fog, welcome to the club. -Clyde =========================================================+ Help save a life, become an organ and tissue donor today.| =========================================================+
Guest guest
is brain fog caused by elevated ammonia and how do you find out???? i sometimes seem to be in a daze and cannot think clearly, i has been happening for the last couple of months to me and i don't understand it terri To Judy, , others writing of brain fog: Do you know if high ammonia levels can occur even with normal lab tests? Guest guest
Terri, There is a blood test that measures your ammonia level and according to my doctors it does cause brain fog. He told me one pt. of his owned his own business and was about to lose his business because of brain fog. He was moved up on the transplant list because of this. I wonder about that, though. Guest guest
Yes Harper, you can have high ammonia levels with normal labs. It just happened to me a couple of months ago. All of my labs came back normal except for my ammonia level. That's why I am trying to get to a real AIH specialist. I am now on Lautlose(?) twice a day for it. Cherry Re: [ ] Brain Fog? Guest guest
Yes, high ammonia levels is one of the culprits that can cause brain fog. I am new at this and as I understand there are other liver problems that can cause it. Mine was detected by a blood test. Make sure you find out. Guest guest
Isn't it something when you get a whole new awareness? It's like the puzzle pieces start falling into place. I contracted Hep C when I was 10, from a blood transfusion. Later, in my early 20's, I developed anorexia. At that time there was no diagnosis for anorexia, and I don't fit into the profiles of what they call anorexia today. All I know is that I went down to 83# and was scared to death that I would die. I was a young married mom with two little children. Once I got my diagnosis, I started researching everything about Hep C. I don't even know where I came across it, but I found a study that talked about Hep C-related anorexia. It was such an " aha! " moment for me. Please do tell the others about what is going on - you could be saving someone's life. Marilyn Brain fog? About 14 years ago I got a blood test from some health ins. company that I was trying to get ins. thru. That was when I first new about the bad blood readings. I did not feel that bad then, just hangovers from excessive drinking. I also did not have a family Dr' at the time. I gave the test results to my chiropractor and he said that I needed to exercise diet and lose weight. It took a little while to get started and I did I was rollerblade 15 miles on an old railroad bed that had been paved over. I went to a Dr. to get the patch to quit smoking, and he did some blood work and got the same results. That is when I quit drinking, he said that the blood levels came down enough after a month of sobriety. I never really drank any more after that, except for a few times and it seem to make me ill. I had gone from 285 lbs to 200 and was feeling good for a couple years. Then things started going down hill. I did not have the energy that I used to, I would get stuck in brain fog to the point that I could not remember how to fix something that I was working on. I thought that I some how got Lyme disease, or some other related problem. This when they first put me on antidepressants. That turn into a whole another nightmare. Only till I got out of fixing cars did it get any better but this spring it got allot worse when I was going to school. Tiring to write these letters can be a chore because I forget were I am in the middle of a sentence. A guy I used to shoot drugs with when I was in my teens, died several years ago from some type of liver failure. I supposed that I should look into why and tell some of the others to get tested for this. Enough for now, Kent.

Guest guest
, your doctor should have had you on antidepressants before you ever started treatment. It takes 2 months for them to kick in and you should have been stable on them before you ever did the TX. Try again to talk to your doctor about doing this, if you have the chance, go for it! If your doc resists, fina a new one, I did, and couldn't be happier about it. Please remember we are all here for you. Happy Turkey Day to you, too, buddy! Marilyn Re: Brain fog? Guest guest
I have read many posts about experincing brain fogs. I really wonder if I ever had them. I did notice that I have been terribly distracted, but I always attributed it to depression because of my illness. I do remember feeling like I was spaced out, although that was not frequent. Still it is a weird feeling, like the one you get after drinking alcohol (light head?). If this is the brain fog, then I definatelly have it. In my case it comes and goes, it is not constant. Sometimes I kind of felt that i was there but not there?? I would say that the symptoms that bother me the most are the dryness (eyes, vagina, skin, and hair, the mouth is o.k.), and the weird lack of sensitivity all over my chest, neck, shoulders and face. All my blood tests have been negative so far. I pray that I get to feel better after tomorrow. Zelly

Guest guest
Zelly, My doctor, an Internist, who practices both traditional medicine along with holistic nutritional supplements gave me a tip about dry skin. She told me to us " olive oil " . I have been using it for over a year. It sinks right in. She also told me to use pharmaceutical grade Nowegian fish oil capsules. They too help the skin dryness a LOT !!! The brain fog? Mine was like I felt a little " zoned out " ...couldn't focus for long periods of time. Didn't feel " motivated " to focus. Kind of like my brain took a " muscle relaxer " . LOL The brain fog is very odd and hard to explain. It does sound like you have experienced it. Again, good luck tomorrow and let us hear from you. --- In , " zellysmada " <zellysmada@...> wrote: > > I have read many posts about experincing brain fogs. I really wonder > if I ever had them.
