Guest guest
Tell us more Beth this sounds so exciting and amazing too. I want you to tell me all about what you would have to do if you do it. What training? Your truly an inspiration. Cheryl Ü << I am thinking about doing the Danskin triathlon down in Orlando on Septemeber 24th. I guess I am looking for a cheerleader to get me through the next three weeks of training (if I decide to do it). Any volunteers? So what do you guys think? Am I totally nuts?? Guest guest
This sounds fantastic Beth. I envy you. And I think you should go for it! This just sounds so cool! I think it is something that you will be glad you did and regret it if you don't. So go for it Beth I'm behind you 100%!!! I think I am a bit far away to be able to enter though clear across the US in little old Washington state. You Go Girl Cheryl Ü << Danskin sponsors triathlons just for women all over the country each year. The last one this season is on September 24th down in Orlando. (It's actually in Disney World - the swim is in the lagoon, the run goes through the Magic Kingdom and down Main Street!) >>
Guest guest
Cheryl, Danskin sponsors triathlons just for women all over the country each year. The last one this season is on September 24th down in Orlando. (It's actually in Disney World - the swim is in the lagoon, the run goes through the Magic Kingdom and down Main Street!) They are " sprint " length triathlons, not the iron man ones you see on TV. :-) The Danskins consist of a 1/2 mile swim, followed by a 12 mile bike ride, followed by a 3 mile run (I'll be walking this part!). According to their site, about half the participants are 1st timers and racers range in age from 14 - 72 and come in all sizes. And . . . they have a designated last place finisher, a professional athlete who is the spokesperson, so you KNOW you won't come in last. :-) The goal . . . or at least it seems this way to me . . . is to get women active and involved. I have a friend who started doing marathons a few years ago and she has been talking about doing this triathlon for a few months and it never even occurred to me that I COULD DO IT, TOO! But then I found out about the distances . . . and that there is no time limit . ... you finish when you finish . . . and so for the past two days I've been thinking . . . hmmm . . . maybe I can do this. :-) I reasonably certain I can do the biking and run/walking part . . . but the swimming part could be a challenge. I've never actually tried to swim that far before and I have no idea how " far " I have to go. But, they will have kayaks along the route and you can stop and hang on and rest if you need to. So . . . anybody else interested???? :-) Beth
Guest guest
Beth, This sounds like so much fun. I wish I could join you, but I live on the other coast:( I don't know anything about training for triathelons so I can't help you there, but I volunteer to be one of your cheerleaders(since I never got to be one in high school). Way to go. Good luck with the training...I will be thinking of you when I workout(I think I will start swimming this week so I can get conditioned for the next event here in So. Guest guest
Hi , Here's a link about the race. The West Coast race was in San this year. I don't know if that varies from year to year or what. http://www.sportsforwomen.com/danskin.html And thanks for offering to be a cheerleader. :-) I have a feeling the next few weeks could be a little .. . scary. I wasn't an athlete in high school or at any other point in my life! > Beth, > > This sounds like so much fun. Guest guest
Hey Cheryl . . . they had one in Seattle this year! Never too early to start thinking about next year!! ;-) (You and can start a west coast training team! :-)) And I think you are right . . . that I'll probably be kicking myself regretting it on September 25th if I don't give it a shot. Guest guest
But you are an athlete now. You can do this!!! You are motivated and that is the most important part. Just think how good you will feel when you cross the finish line. Go Beth, Go. Guest guest
Go, Beth Go!!! So you finish whenever you finish, huh? Well, you may have thought about it for two days, it would probably take me longer than that to finish! LOL No, don't get excited, I can't join you, but I do think it sounds wonderful and I wish you lots of luck and even more fun! Jean
