I also lost alot of feeling around my nipples. I did okay for about 5 years but am now VERY sick. I used to be an incredibly active person: PE teacher, kayaker, jogger, cycler... Now I can hardly make it to the mailbox. Its not a matter of who will have problems with implants but when you will have problems. I urge you not to get them. I remember being in your place just 2 years ago, and was convinced that all the problems happened to other people, just unlucky I thought. I have been through hell, ruined my health and life for two years, and would NEVER even consider implants if I had known some of what I know now, especially that the implants are coated in silicone. If you can find an alternative to make you happy with your breasts, maybe a breast lift? I don't know your particulars. Weird thing is that I actually ended up with almost perfect looking playboy breasts and hated them! They were big and uncomfortable. I could not wear most of the clothes I liked. And in the end I am much happier with my B cup. I hope this helps! Guest guest Posted February 3, 2007 Report Share Posted February 3, 2007 Hi, you're very wise for posting here, this site is not only for those who are sick and need support, but it's a great place for people who are thinking about getting implants to come. Many of us have had our implants removed and are here to help. I've only been coming here for year and a half and I'm still amazed by how many new people have posted messages on this site and others like it because they are sick and their doctors keep telling them " it's not the implants " , and oddly enough we all have the same or a similar set of symptoms. I had my implants for six months, but I started getting sick within a week or two of getting them, and it just continued to get worse from there. Yes, there are some women who never seem to get sick, and unfortunately the manufacturers don't want to know what the percentage of women who get sick is, because that would mean they're acknowledging that implants aren't as safe as we're told. There are no statistics because there's money in it for the manufacturers and the plastic surgeons, and they deny that there's a problem. If I knew almost two years ago what I know now, I would not have had the implant surgery, because it was very psychologically damaging, and I went through more than $14,000 on the implant surgery and the explant surgery (I'm still paying the credit card bills). It's not as if there's a magic pill that makes us immediately better once they're out, either, it takes time and effort to get better - so if you're thinking " well, I'll get implants and if they make me sick, I'll simply have them removed " . It's not that easy. I know people here who weren't even able to work anymore because they were so sick. Sadly the FDA was more concerned about a bad batch of spinach than they have been about those of us who have suffered because of implants. Again, you are doing the right thing by posting on this site, because you need to hear the dark side of implants as well as the sunny side that your plastic surgeon will give you. There are more woman that never find this site. As I was going thru this, I talked to a lot of other people who knew someone that knew someone that this happened to. I do not think it is a small percentage. Why? Because even the implant manufacturers tell you to expect another surgery every 10 years or so. There are risks with every surgery. I have heard about too many that have problems to think it is a small percentage. Even a small percentage,(if that is the case which I do not believe it is) is still in the hundreds of thousands. Are you familiar with Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia? Go to www.wikipedia.com and type in " breast implants " in the search box. You can also access the " history " and " discussion " pages to see how controversial this is. There is some research that suggests platinum was used as a catalyst in getting the silicone to gel....either in the silicone implants or in the shell of saline implants. The research discovered platinum in positive states in woman who had implants. Platinum in any other state other than zero is toxic. This industry is filled with research that is funded by none other than the implant manufacturers. There has been no long term research performed by an objective research team. The director of Womans Health and Resource in Washington D.C. weighs in on this Wikipedia article. I had them in my body for 20 yrs. and almost died. Read more and more testimonies on this site, and you'll probably make the decision not to implant. Please consider the " why " when you think of putting something in your body that may be potentially hazardous to your health. You're beautiful and wonderful just the way you are....I can tell you that without knowing what you look like, because I believe we were all made just perfectly to begin with. I suffered from literally no self-esteem, low body image, and was easily influened by my former husband to implant. I regretted it very soon after, as I love the natural life, so it hurt me emotionally for so many years. I don't mean to come across so fervently, but it's a passionate thing to me, as I've seen and heard many women and children suffer needlessly. Keep in touch with us! Our group exists to help women with implant issues, including whether or not to get them. We all feel like we've got something to share, and most of it is not good news for you, if you've wanted implants. We are struggling to get our health back, so we are going to say things like, Learn to love yourself the way you are! You are already healthy and beautiful, and implants are NOT WORTH the risks! Keep your healthy breasts just the way they are! Yes, the stories you've heard about really are THAT BAD. Let's see...put yourself in the position of possibly losing your health your job your independence your husband (if you have one) your finances your car and other possessions your financial future your dreams and goals Even if it is a small percentage that experience these illnesses, do you want to take the chance that it could be you? Because if it is you, it doesn't matter how small that number is....for you, the chance becomes 100% a reality that you have to live with. And then it's too late....
