Guest guest
Hi , I am sorry you were in so much pain. I hope your pain has eased up. I also hope that you are approved for the placard! Guest guest
I'm so sorry that you had to go through that painful and embarrasing situation! I hope you get approved for the placard. I get mine through my orthopedic surgeon's office. I just call his medical assistant, and she fills out the application for me and has him sign it. It doesn't even require an appointment because they have treated me so long. I live in Oregon so I don't know if rules differ in your state, but I don't have to even go to DMV to pick up my new placard in person. I can have someone in my family or a friend get it for me. My mom has cancer and does the same thing through her primary care physician. Again, so sorry for what you're going through, Janie ----- Original Message ---- I know it's the law but the policeman was so uncompationate even when I showed him my docs prescribtion from my MRI for pre-op surgery. I went to apply for a handicap placard today and had to walk just as far and stand in line at the court house. sometimes I wonder if they understand what pain with each step means. I do not own a car at the time so I usually have someone drop me at the door but you know, everyone has their own life, more to do than lug me around to run errands. I hope I get the placard soon so I can just use my husbands car in the evenings and feel like an adult again. ------------------------------------ Know someone who could benefit from our list? Guest guest
My doctor took care of getting mine for me. We asked him about it and he said he would take care of it. In no time it came in the mail. I'm sorry your pain is so bad and I wish you the best in getting relief and a placard. Guest guest
, I don't know about the state you're in, but here in Arizona the fine for this is $350. It might be worth your while to go and talk to the judge. Maybe if you explain your situation to him, he might have some sympathy for your situation. You could also explain how difficult it was for you just to go and get the handicap placard, that you should have gone sooner but you didn't know how you were going to be able to walk so far and stand in line. You had to wait until a really good, less painful day came around. Good luck, and let us know how this gets worked out. Guest guest
Hi , Please excuse me as I'm fairly new to posting my thought's etc ! I'm with you all the way !!! Some people think that if it's an empty parking space they can just claim it, unfortunately. It makes me laugh when you see them walking like they have no issues with walking too ! Thanks for reminding me to get a placard (blue badge in UK) It's the least I can do for my friends who take me places !! Good luck with your placard :0) Nik. Guest guest
For some reason I was more embarrassed than I probably should have been, I keep thinking of the way he looked at me and coldly stated the law, asked for my license, etc. I was in tears when I left. Overreaction for sure. I guess you get tired of people accusing you of faking even if it's just with a look. I have an appointment with my primary tomorrow thank God, he's always been the best, I hope think he will go ahead and fill out the paperwork. I'll let you know how it goes > > I'm so sorry that you had to go through that painful and embarrasing situation!

Your experience in South Carolina was the same as mine in Indiana; except that I had to pay five dollars and that was seven years ago! .:-) The person at the motor vehicles department asked me why I wanted tags, instead of handicapped plates for our vehicles. I told her I wanted to be able to take a tag with me when I go home to Canada and am using a rental car. The first time I used a Saskatchewan handicapped parking spot and put my foreign handicapped tag on the rental car mirror, I wondered how the police would react to that. They didn't care. Taking trips really hurts me and I'm worn out for days when I get home, but the adventures and the hugs I get are worth it, so I still try to take a long trip at least once a year. My family and friends are very supportive. When I do get where I'm going, they have a comfy bed for me and special treats etc. (sounds like I'm the family pet :-) I've used my handicapped tag in several provinces and states without incident. I haven't tried it across the pond yet. Airline tickets are so insanely expensive right now, that I don't think I'll be sitting in a jumbo jet any time soon. Heck, I'm having a hard time saving up enough money to just pay the huge cost that NWA charges for flying to western Canada. I can't afford to go any farther afield than that. But an old gimpy girl can still dream . :-) -- Lyndi

I'm shocked you have to wait for your sticker/pass. The only thing I had to do was get a letter from my doctor. Then take it to the town hall and they gave me my parking pass to hang in my window. It is good for 2 years. In July I do the same thing all over again. Our town hall is only 3 miles from our house. Well good luck Toni
