Hi, My name is Phyllis Readling and I hav WLS (RNY - lap) on 11-12-

01. I had my first post-po blood work done this week and would love

for someone to explain what the various test are and help me

understand them. Please.

test results normal range

hemoglobin 5.4 4.5-5.7

protein 7.3 6.0-8.5

vitamin B12 1301 211-911

WBC 9.2 4.6-10.8

RBO 4.73 4.04-5.40

HGB 13.5 12.2-16.2

HCT 42.0 37.7-47.9

MCV 89 80-97

MCH 28.5 27.0-31.2

MCHC 30.1 31.0-35.4

RDW 14.0 11.6-14.8

PLATELET 267 142-424

GRAN 5.1 2.0-6.9

LYM 3.6 0.6-3.4

MID .05 0.0-18.0

GRANULOCYTE % 55.2 37.0-80.0

LYMPHOCYTE % 39.0 10.0-50.0

MID % 5.6 .01-24.0

Can anyone help me understand? I can see that 2 are high and 1 is

low. The B12 is the only one that is out by very much.

thanks, Phyllis

Dear Phyllis,

I think your labs are overall very good. I would love for my total protein

level to be up where you are. B12 is ok.. Are u getting shots or taking a b

12 supplement? IF so, how often.. you might want to back off a bit.. my b12

is pretty high at present and we have gone from b12 every two weeks to

monthly for now.

I dont see Vit A, D, or zinc levels.. and we malabsorb these elements. I

also dont see a lipid profile, comprehensive metabolic panel, or

electrolytes.. things like cholesterol, liver enzymes, and sodium, potassium,

calcium.. We need to have these levels tested routinely as well as get an

annual dexascan ..

Your weight loss is great.. keep up the good work.

Take care

Hugs,
