Guest guest
How long after your breast implant surgery did you experience dry eyes? I developed chronic dry eyes almost 6 years after my surgery. Has anyone had lasik too? I had lasik in 1997. I guess I always had a little dryness but nothing compared to what I have now. Guest guest
Zelly, Are you taking any medications that may make dry eyes worse? And, are you using any products to aleviate your dry eyes. I've been down that road . .. had many, many microscopic tears on my corneas. . . You must take care that does not happen to you. Guest guest
Hi Betty ! I usually don't post very often but I read all the posts. I too have dry eyes and for my 2 cents worth - at least for me, over the years it has been a combo of the RA drugs, allergies & prob dry eyes- haven't talked to my eye doc about that yet. I suggest talking to your RA doc as well as your eye doc & maybe your PCP. Good luck Betty! Keep us posted! Guest guest
Of course many people with RA also have Sjogren's syndrome, which causes dry eyes and mouth and other dry things. Sometimes I think I might have that, because my mouth gets very dry at night. Also, many people get dry eyes as they get older. I don't know how old you are, so that might not apply to you. I have Fuchs' corneal dystrophy and map dot dystrophy, which you've never heard of, I'm sure; but these contribute to my dry eyes, especially the map dot, which affects the outermost layer of the cornea. Before I started using Genteal gel, in the morning when I would wake up, it seemed that my eyeball was stuck to my eyelids and I would have to pry them apart. The Genteal gel fixed that. During the daytime, I use moisturizing drops as needed. And of course some medications might also contribute to dry eye. I still need gel drops from time to time but it is so so much better. I also am allergic to dust, dust mites etc and think I have eye irritation due to that too. My rhuemie told me several years ago that the Dept of Allergy was under the impression that allergies could be the cause of some of the rhuematic disorders. Just an FYI if you've never heard that before. Good luck.  ladeyangll
Guest guest
My cornea specialist inserted plugs into my lower tear ducts, because my map dot dystrophy was causing corneal erosions. My understanding is that these tear ducts allow the tears to drain out through the nose and throat. Plugging them allows the natural tears to remain in the eyes and hopefully help them stay more moisterized. They have helped my situation, but I still need the Genteal gel at night. Guest guest
Thank you for explaining how the plugs work. I have them and didn't know lol. I don't even know how often they should be replaced. Do you? All I know if that I am very appreciative of the surgeon that gave them to me. I had a scar on my eye from the damaged caused by the dryness and it's gone now! I'm so relieved. People said they didn't notice it but I did every time I looked in the mirror.  I'd also like to thank you for the info re Genteal Gel eye drops. I'll look for them at the store. I tried Restasis but it was too strong for me and caused burning etc. It was NOT the solution. Have a nice day.  an appreciative ladeyangll

She said I am probably sensitive to the preservative. She recommended I get the drops that don't have preservative. They come in little tubes and are meant to only be used for one day. dd
Guest guest
I'm afraid I don't know how often they should be replaced. I'm just hoping mine stay in a long time, although I don't even know if they're still in there. I do know that they can cauterize the ducts, and that is a permanent solution. It doesn't sound very pleasant, but you wouldn't feel it. Sue On Mar 11, 2011, at 2:47 AM, Angll Nyte wrote: > Thank you for explaining how the plugs work. I have them and didn't > know lol.
