What tests? Are you on Synthyroid? Did the test your antibodies, free t3 and free t4?

Re: I'm new to this :(

Well, my doc felt my neck in October and again in January and said that it feels like my thyroid has gotten bigger on one side. In addition, because the bloodwork showed that my dosage was OK, they want to see why I'm still feeling like "doo-doo" (a technical medical term).> I hate to sound dumb, but why this test? What are they looking for?

No no NO on the energy drinks because they are mostly soy which is poison. No green tea stuff either for now.

CoQ10, b12 high dose under the tongue lozenges, not pills, fruits and veggies, that is it for me. I am sure others have more tricks too.

Re: I'm new to this :(

Do you have any tricks/remedies I can try while off the meds? My husband suggested one of those energy drinks but don't quite know about that. Thanks sooooo very much.> On this skan, you are not put in a tube and I dont know what to do about all the symptoms. Did your doctor give you some synthetic syntroid. My doctor usually gives me that the at first so You dont feel so miserable. This test itself is easy. It is going off your medicine that is the pits. There is a new test that they can give you where you do not have to go off your medicine. Unfortunately it is a new test and most insurance companies do not cover it, so most doctors still use the old test.> > I sympathize with you because I have been through this skan several times and going off your medicine is not fun.> > LInda

For a long time now I thought that I might have a low thyroid, I am tired all the time and cold and have a real hard time to lose weight. was told once that is low by a nurse practioner and she had more test taken, she left and so I ask my Dr. if he knew how the test turned out and he said every thing was fine.

well I just read this post about no green tea or Soy and I drink both green tea and soy milk every day.

I know nothing about what most of the posts talk about her as it is all over my head, but would like any thought on this.

Jill, I think most of those have soy in them, which the thyroid does not

like!

First, get the test results. TSH, free t3, free t4, ferritin and estrogen. Post those results and I will bet you are not OK. Second, Soy is poison to the thyroid patient. I say all the time after spending years in pain, check all labels. Have no soy for 30 days. I will bet you will feel 100% better. Green tea depresses the thyroid. Another thing I used to drink all the time!

So, they're probably looking for a nodule? Is that the term that they used?

Did you give us your lab values? Always get a hard copy of your lab values,

with the normal lab reference ranges to compare to. Did you have antibodies

testing for Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, or has your doctor mentioned anything

like this?

Deciding exactly why the thyroid is increasing in size is the key here. If

you're having inflammation in the thyroid, along with goiter (simply puffing

up or increasing size, trapping iodine that won't make thyroid hormone),

then ibuprophen, IF you're having pain in the neck area. However, I'm not

sure if the ibuprophen would mess up any testing. I don't think it would,

but it's going to depend on what's wrong with it. Have you asked questions

of your doctor?

First, you need to go back and get a hard copy of your labs, and every lab that you have thereafter. Do not ever accept the explaination that they are "fine". Get to know your disease (most of us out of desperation and necessity). I know that that's why you're here, of course. Some of the foods that block thyroid hormones' absorption into the system are soy (bigtime), turnips, cruciferous veggies like cabbage, cauliflower----Other than the soy, I'm thinking that you can eat most of these occasionally and in normal amts, but no pigging out on them (I love turnips and cauliflower---let loose with them, I can eat a TON of them). There are others, but I can't think of them offhand. I really eat a wide variety of foods, so, who knows, I may be eating some of them too.

I do not have a thryoid and have recently gone through removal of lymph nodes

from cancer reoccurrance. I drink alot of green tea. What is the deal on this

and is it bad for me?

I use it for dieting as I am extremely overweight and on a low carb high protein

diet.

One thing that may help is to eat small meals every two or three hours... to keep up your energy levels... it helps a lot.... Also... balance the carbs and the proteins.... high carb burns quickly, dropping your blood sugar and making you feel less energetic.... protein takes longer to burn and keeps the blood sugar levels more even...

Imagine burning a newspaper and a log.... the paper burns very hot, very fast then dies down.... the log burns slower, less intense heat, for a longer period of time.

Lillian.....

If you have questions, just ask.... Someone will help....

Both the green tea and the soy mess with the thyroid hormones... so if you are already hypo.. they will both make you worse.

How long ago were those tests taken? Can you get the lab results and tell us? We can give you a heads up on if you have to start stomping your feet with your docs.... It's your legal right to get copies of those labs......

I love green tea--is it and soy a NO NO if we don't have a thyroid gland? For years this has puzzled me, a lot of over the counter drugs say don't use if you have thyroid troubles.

OMG, I've been signing out from Tx, to identify which ----back to the drawing board, huh, teehee? The foods we've been talking about, including the green tea and soy, block the absorption of thyroid hormone at the cellular level, so yes, it's the same thing with no thyroid. Many of the warnings we see on cough and cold meds have to do with HYPERthyroidism. However, if one's meds were a bit too much for that person, I suppose that it could also affect them. Actually, when we're hypothyroid, MOST of our meds we put in our bodies are processed the wrong way, until it's corrected.

A low uptake can show hypothyroidism, a high uptake can show hyper. It can also show how the thyroid is absorbing the iodine and if there are nodules whether they are hot or cold.

Take no soy including in prepared food, soy oil etc. and see if you feel better after 30 days. If you take thyroid meds, you will block the absorption with those things.
