Guest guest
I just got off the phone with my Dr. and I had to tell him why I called him last week and what procedure he performed on me. And where we were in my treatment process. Will Dr. L see people who have had their reversal done by someone else? To help reevaluate where I am at in my progress in TTC and it I need further surgery. I have not gotten very many messages today, is it just slow or am I not getting them. Do you all receive the post that you send I noticed that someone responded to my first message, am I posting right? Guest guest
I would find that very frustrating myself! I am not sure if Dr. L will see people who had the reversal done by someone else but it wouldn't hurt to call or email the office. As far as the messages, Yahoo was down all weekend and is still having a few " glitches " but hopefully they will get them worked out soon. in MI Frustrated I just got off the phone with my Dr. and I had to tell him why I called him last week and what procedure he performed on me. Guest guest
Hi Lee, I had my prostate removed in 1992. Even after almost 15 years, I still leak at times. I buy the womens pads. They have an adhesive on the back- just put them in your jockey shorts and don't worry about it. I wish you all the bestAubrey Pilgrim, DC (Ret.) Crawford is co-author of the revision I am about 7 weeks since my RP. In some ways part of it seems so surreal, like it never happened, then there is the leaking. I am so frustrated with this, I seem to be able to hold my bladder if it is full, but there are those times that if my pants are a bit tight, or doing certain exercises; I get these little spurts of pee coming out, and I cant seem to stop them. Is this normal, should I expect to eventually gain control?I am also wondering if it really takes 6-18 months for sexual functioning to return after nerve sparing surgery. I know I probably sound like I am whining, but it has been a particularly tough week psychologically. Those around me are trying to be comforting, but they just dont fully understand what I am feeling, and sitting here writing this to others who have an understanding feels like a right thing to do. Guest guest
Hi Lee - I can certainly understand your frustration about the urine control issue. This will likely improve over time, as mine did, but it took a good 6-8 months for the periodic little " spurts " to completely stop. I think the Kegel exercises help - I did them often, and a lot when I had some driving to do. Eventually, you'll be over this part. As far as the return of erections, that may be a different matter. I'm not sure there is a certain amount of time that has to pass - if differs from person to person. I had the surgery back in Aug 98 and just last year, decided to get a penile implant. I was told that one of the nerve bundles was " sacrificed " during surgery because of the proximity of the cancer; the doctor said he " tried " to save the bundle on the left side. My potency never returned and after various efforts to use the other options, I went for the implant. I hope you will become potent again, sooner rather than later. Guest guest
Hi Philip, I have a room full of reference books-none of them have anything to say about libido, except for things which can cause a loss of it. There are hundreds of drugs, emotions, age and a myriad of other things which can cause a loss of libido, but nothing that we know of which can cause an increase of it. Guest guest
Hi Aubrey,Many thanks for taking the time to reply. I had already started to read your extensive and immensely helpful link below.Whilst I accept there are no aphrodisiacs, I wondered if there might be some hormonal imbalance. I have begun to have some good nocturnal erections and the occasional stimulated one. Although not as hard as I'd like. I know it's only been 8 months and perhaps I should be more patient.I take Levitra 20mg twice weekly and muse at 250mcrgrms. Levitra seems to have some effecy but I'm afraid the muse does nothing. I see my consultant next week Maybe I should ask for a higher dose.Kind regardsPhilip Re: Re: Frustrated Hi Philip, I have a room full of reference books-none of them have anything to say about libido, except for things which can cause a loss of it. Guest guest
Hi Philip, I suggest that you get a Vacuum Erection Device (VED). This will not only provide the penis with fresh nourishing blood, it will help prevent shrinkage. By using the constriction rings after the erection is created, it can be used for successful intercourse. I wish you all the bestAubrey Pilgrim, DC (Ret.) Guest guest
Hi Philip, I find reading your post on this matter, helpful. As you note I am not that far away from the surgery. I think one of my struggles lies in the area of not having understood that this was going to "mess" with my head as much as it has, sometimes I feel like more than just a prostate gland with cancer was taken out of me. I am an optimistic person as a rule, however lately I find I am truly questioning if I will ever be able to function normally and be the person I was prior to the surgery. I am thankful for your encouragement, as well as the others who have offered encouraging words. I suspect I will be back for more encouragement as I work through this thing, that none of us would ever have thought we would deal with. Guest guest
Mick, Many thanks, I was told that Levitra is longer lasting in that it stays in the body longer. As I will be seeing my consultant next week I have a lot more questions for him especially after some of the very good advice I have received here. Kind regards to all of you lovely people. If any of you ever get the chance to come visit Edinburgh Scotland I would be happy to meet up with you. Philip > Hi Philip, > > I suggest that you get a Vacuum Erection Device (VED). Guest guest
Lee, I was very lucky indeed to have a friend who is the same age as me and who was diagnosed 18 months before me. Not only was he the same age but had almost the same Gleason score and PSA levels. He was more help to me than all the health professionals put together. Simply because he'd been there and done it so to speak. There are times when I deeply regret having had the RP but I feel that it was still the best option, being the surest way to get rid of the cancer. Please be assured that I am more than happy to help. 8 months on I am still getting better and once my erections are back well... Not being able to ejaculate is a small price to pay for being cancer free. Kind regards Philip > > >Hi Too. > > > > I think all of us who have undergone a RR are entitled to whine. Guest guest
I suspect that each of us may respond differently to the various solutions to this problem. A friend of mine had radical prostatectomy and then tried most of the available options including viagra with no success. Eventually he tried cialis and in the words of the prohet " Bingo " . Everard In message ProstateCancerSupport writes: > Philip - If you are getting nocturnal erections, you have already turned the corner. Take Aubrey's advice and get yourself a VED. You will be amazed at the difference they make. I am 13 months post RRP and I am still seeing improvement. I would also like to suggest that you try 100 mg of Viagra instead of Levitra. I've never tried Levitra but I can tell you that compared to Cialis, Viagra is superior. Unlike the others, Viagra does tend to come on fairly strong and does have some uncomfortable side-effects, but the effects also don't seem to hang on as long. Who needs a boner all weekend anyway? 4-5 hours seems to do me just fine. Seriously Philip, you sound like you are right on track but just need to try a few more experiments. Relax and be patient and you will be just fine! Take care. > > Mick > > APilgrm@... wrote: > Hi Philip, > > I suggest that you get a Vacuum Erection Device (VED).
