Guest guest
Hi ladies! I was on a few months ago asking questions for my mom. She has just finished her chemo and will be starting radiation after the holidays. She is doing GREAT! Well, I just found out that I need to have a biopsy on a lump. What are the chances that I would be going through the same thing as my mom?? Anyways, the " suspicious lump " was found on a mammogram. I've since had an ultrasound and ultrasound w/mammogram. They've determined that it is indeed suspicious and want a biopsy done. I meet with the surgeon on Monday. That's about all I know except that it is small, between 2-4 mm. I'm optimistic, but was wondering if anyone that was in this situation has any experience to share or words of advice. I did a lot of research for my mom, I just need to refresh my memory. I remember reading something about getting a 2nd opinion before a biopsy is done. Anyone know why? I already know where I'll go for a 2nd opinion, but am not sure when to actually go. TIA for your words of wisdom! S.

Guest guest
Hope this will help you...my daughter had a biopsy/lumpectomy one month before my diagnosis. Then a year later, she had to do it over again. Both times the lumps were benign. All lumps are not cancer; in fact 80% are not. could be caffeine or other things causing this. I would however, not wait for the biopsy. If is is b.c., then the sooner it is found, the better your chances for survival. Keep us posted ...I will be praying for you. If they will do a biopsy that removes the lump, that is wonderful...to me getting a lump out is important...if it is not something I want then I want it out! > Hi ladies! > > I was on a few months ago asking questions for my mom. Guest guest
Hi , I'm fairly new to the list so I don't remember you from your mom, but I'm sorry you have to have a biopsy and go through the fear and all that. I've never heard that a second opinion is required for a biopsy. They hurt but only for a few hours; it's not that bad. If it were me, which it was last June, I'd get a biopsy as soon as possible to find out what's what. Sometimes worrying is worse than knowing. Best of luck, Jill At 08:27 PM 12/13/2002 +0000, you wrote: >Hi ladies! > >I was on a few months ago asking questions for my mom. Guest guest
Well, my suggestion would be to go with the radiation just to be sure. I tend to be a worrier and if it were me (which it will be soon!) I would rather put up with a month or so of annoyance and being tired and sunburn than worry forever afterwards if I'd made the right decision. I don't know that I'd say that about chemo; those six months were a REALLY big deal. But I don't anticipate the radiation will be that bad for either of us. Hey, you got the good news about the clear margins on my birthday! Congratulations. I have surgery right after the holidays, so you can let me know what radiation is like, if you choose it, so that I can plan for it. The only thing I know is that I already happen to use the only deoderant you're allowed to use during radiation: Tom's of Maine. Others have aluminum in them, which interferes with the radiation. I'm so glad you don't need chemo and you got clean margins the first time round. Jill > > I just had a biopsy done on Oct. 2003 and my tumor >was cancerous it was 2.5mm which is every small.
