Hi Sussie

well my levels today I was 180 when I got up, then 130 at lunch, then 160

when I came home and then 127 after I walked, I just ate dinner a while ago.

I have been staying around 160 most times now but it was 263 when I found

out. I have come to realize I eat too much bread and I'm not much of a meat

eater so that is not bothering me, I am a big tuna eater and fish eater and

chicken, the only meat I eat or ate occassionally was a good old Philadelphia

Cheesesteak, gonna miss them, used to treat myself once a month.

Hi ,

Thanks for reminding me about grapefruit. I was not able to eat grapefruit

or drink the juice while on one of the blood pressure meds. Grapefruit juice

was my favorite.

Now that I'm off those meds, going to try the grapefruit.

I should call my local hospital and see if they have such classes.

I miss my morning sugar in my coffee.

Yes, I have just started using Spenda. Its good.but not sugar but I will

get used to it in time. What about fructose. Yes it's a carb but only

2grams a teaspoon..And the box says its safe for diabetes but im not

testing it until I can be sure???

HI Deb

no my doctor hasn't put me on med yet. I have to finish this class that she put

me in and then go back and discuss, but she said if I go on meds she would like

me to only be on for a few months, to try and do the control thing and then keep

it in check on my own. This Tuesday is the food class and there is a

nutritionist going to teach and she has a meal plan set up for each of us based

on our individuality. She has been in contact with our doctors and the teacher

for the class. So it should be interesting.

Hello,

I am new to the group also. I am Type 2 and diagnosed

November 2000. I was in good control, but my last A1c

was 6.1, this time it was 6.6. My cholesterol and

triglycerides are both 100 points higher than the ones

in July 2001. I am thinking about going on less

meats, and choosing beans as my protein. Does anyone

have any suggestions or recipes to offer to me. I am

on medication only.

Thanks,

Grapefruit juice enhances potency of bloodpressure meds. I still eat

grapefruit, BP not down as far as it needs to so do not have to worry

about dropping too low at the present. I am on Norvasc (calcium

channel blocker).

Hi Judi,

Have you tried making a bean soup? That is something I enjoy. I can eat

beans and it does not raise my BG's. However, some people cannot eat them.

You may want to test after eating them to see what happens with your BG's.

If you want a bean soup recipe, I'll find one and send it to you.

Deb,

I have been eating @ 8 oz of meat a day, I am on 2000

calorie diet. Yes I know Beans is a carb. I was on

the diet for one day and already my sugar's dropped 15

points. I am also trying to eat when I am hungry and

not because it is time to eat. I will wait and see

the results.

Deb,

I am so happy. I tested my blood sugar this morning

and I was 107. My average prior was 148. I woke up

in the middle of the night about 4am and tested at

134. And this is so much easier to do.
