Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to this list and I did not see the original post, but someone was wondering how to increase iodine and selenium in their diet. I looked on Dr. Weil's site and he suggested the following: For selenium he suggests no more than 200 micrograms. He says you can get 120 micrograms from one brazil nut and says to buy the shelled kind. Other sources are tuna, seafood, wheatgerm, and bran. For the Iodine he suggests kelp and other sea vegatables. These ingredients are found in Japanese and Chinese medicine and cuisine. They can be used in fish, meat, soup, veggie, and rice dishes. He recommends buying from the store, not harvesting yourself because you can't be sure if the water is polluted or if it has harmful bacteria. Dr. Weil's site is wonderful for suggestions on diet and using it to better your health. He has a search area for you to look up specific information. His articles and responses to questions are very good. He often provides links to medical research articles and doesn't hesitate to admit he has no knowlege on a subject. His site is at http://www.askdrweil.com. If you are not familiar with Dr. Weil, he is an integrative medicine doctor. That means he believes in both conventional and alternative therapies. You may have seen him in magazines or on TV. He looks like Santa Claus and is usually covered with mud. haha. He has been through conventional medical school but he has also had extensive training in alternative medicine and also has a degree in botany. He lives here in Tucson, Arizona and teaches and practices out of my university, the University of Arizona. BJ
