She is the first one in my family that I know of other than myself. Her mother sent the news to me in a Christmas card. I don't even know her first name...that is a shame but we moved to another state and I did not know her as I was growing up. I hear from her mom once a year at this time when I get a card. Sometimes we just ignore stuff like that but I have learned to take it seriously. I can't take over the counter medicine without doctor's approval because of blood pressure, kidney medicine and tamoxifen so it wouldn't affect me...but some people might be. I am glad we have a pharmacy person in the crowd. If you notice, I frequently tell people to consult their pharmacist about medicine as well as the doctor...pharmacists have more training about medicine! I hope you enjoy it. doris The Patchwork Quilt A homemade patchwork quilt is a work of love and of beauty. Just think how many stitches a quilter has to put into a quilt.even one that is just the size of a baby's bed. I have made a few quilts in my lifetime, one for each of my children and a few extras for friends. Making a quilt is time consuming but a joy when it is finished and you are able to look back and see the beautiful work of art you have created. A quilt is made of fabric, thread and filler. But there is another patchwork quilt that all of us make during our lifetimes. We may not know that we are making this quilt but we are. Our lives are a kind of patchwork quilt. We add pieces as we go through life. We have pieces that are happy and pieces that are sad. We prefer the happy pieces of the quilt but the sad ones come along even if we don't ask for or want them. I like to think that the happy pieces of my quilt will be the ones that shine the most and attract the most attention. I also hope that the happy pieces of my quilt will wrap around the sad pieces and give them comfort and warmth the way we get comfort and warmth when we wrap up in a favorite blanket or quilt. Let's all enjoy the quilts we are producing and make every effort to share our quilts with our friends and family. They need the comfort and warmth that our quilts (lives) can give to them. I'm glad all your co-workers and clients are so supportive to you. And of course I'm glad you're cancer free! Jill p.s.I hadn't realized you'd had just intense bypass surgery. I'm really glad that it worked. You must have been furious, after all that surgery and such a long recovery for your arm, to have been diagnosed with breast cancer so soon afterwards, and had to wait for your arm to recover all over again from the lymph node surgery. It was helpful when my eyebrows were gone; you couldn't notice as much. Actually I'll probably keep my hair short and punky and dye it red or black. Except I told my daughter years ago that I wanted to have a long grey braid when I was sixty. Now she really wants me to grow out my hair so I can have that long grey braid. I'm afraid what she really wants is for me to be alive when I'm sixty. There's nothing I can tell her to reassure her about that. She knows breast cancer returns and women die from it. It happened twice in her school last year. At least I don't have to worry about that yet. My hair grows really slowly, and even if I tried, I wouldn't have a long braid for another six or seven years anyhow. Jill p.s.I was getting kind of old for long hair, actually.
