Are you doing real protein yet? WATER, of course.....

My limit for SUGAR is 6g per meal. Watch for HIDDEN sugars, such as milk,

applesauce, " healthy " foods. Even fructose can fatten you up.

I don't count other carbs. I can't eat that much volume, so it's not a big

deal. I need what's IN them, so I'm going go have them anyway.

Carbs Question

Hi,

I'm having a hard time knowing what I can eat when it comes to carbs. Is

there a guideline to how many carbs you can have in a day?

I haven't lost weight in about two weeks and I'm only 6 weeks out. That

means I stopped at 4 weeks. My doctor's office said it was unusual, but not

to worry. I believe it's because I'm not eating enough. I just don't know

what to eat. I have never enjoyed cooking and really ate mostly junk food

all my life. I don't want the junk food so I end up not eating much. I eat

a lot of fish....many kinds and some fruit and a little beef. I don't like

yogurt or cottage cheese or beans. Can't handle eggs or much dairy. I am

taking my vitamins.

I start back to work on Tuesday and need to bring food with me. Any ideas

would be appreciated.

Thanks!

in California :)

Hi ,

I'm doing great on my water now. At least a gallon a day, which I think is

good since I still have to sip or get sick. Not doing protein drinks yet.

My daughter is going to make one tomorrow that she thinks I will like. I'm

having more good days then bad. Haven't thrown up since Wednesday. It's

usually when I'm taking my vitamins I get sick. They don't go down well.

I was just looking over some sugar free recipes and most had fruit juice and

milk in them. I have stayed away from bread. I can't even eat a half a

piece without feeling uncomfortable. I can down a few corn chips, but just

a few.

I don't know whether you saw my other post about B-12. Do you know why my

doctor would tell me to only take it every third day? Do you know how much

we need a day?

Thanks so much!

in California :)

Sounds like you need another scope. Don't put it off, OK? Or I'll sic your

sisters on you again.

Well, B12 dots. Everyone takes 'em differently. WE tell people one a day, then

adjust when you get labs. Some ppl only do them weekly. I never did them at

all. Never even heard we needed B12 til I was a couple years out. Weird, huh?

But in reality, I didn't need it til the 6th year!

Just be sure you don't add too much garbage to your protein drink. Once you get

going on these at a reasonable rate, you'll feel lots better. Right now, you're

sliding into starvation mode from the lack of nutrition.

Wow! A GALLON?! How are you doing it? I am three weeks post-op and

many times at the end of the day I realize that I've barely had a

quart. I get so busy taking care of my kiddos that I forget to sip,

sip, sip. Pre-op, I could easily get my 12 glasses in... in guzzles,

though. I need a water fairy to watch over me...

Thank you . When you say " garbage " do you mean fruit or something

else? I'm getting my labs done in a month.

I don't want another scope!!! That was yucky. Is it because I have trouble

getting pills down that you feel that way? Food seems to go down fine. I

always stop once I feel a little uncomfortable.

Hi Kim,

Well, I had a bad experience with throwing up and got dehydrated. I could

see veins under my eyes that I didn't even know existed. I couldn't think

clearly. Pretty scary. At first it seemed impossible, but I just carry my

water everywhere with me.

At three weeks it was harder for me to get in that much. But my sips are a

bit bigger now. Also, Gatorade has put out water with vitamins in it. It

comes in a couple if flavors.....lemon, berry and I think black berry. It's

nice for a change. At first it was a little sweet, but then you get to

craving it. I drink about one 16 oz a day (I think that's how much is in

the smaller one.)

The water beads sound great. It will make you more conscious of how much

you are drinking.

Good luck Kim!! Let me know how you are doing.

My daughter just gave me a taste of her protein drink. It has 20 grams of

protein, half a banana and two strawberries.

Is that something that would be beneficial to me? It tasted good. Not sure

I could drink all of it though. Oh shoot! She just told me it had skim

milk in it. I am scared to death to try it again, although I just did. No

wonder it tasted good. Maybe I will try a small amount tomorrow.

Sugar. You can add a few slices of banana to get texture & taste, so you don't

need to add a WHOLE banana. Just check the sugar g on every single thing that

goes into your face.

People get kinda carried away, adding a little this, a little that, here 'not

there, til they take a shake that coulda been 160 cal and make it into 360 cal

with " healthy " things.

Kim,

There is one other thing that plays in the back of my mind all the time.

When I got sick as a dog with horrible gas and throwing up I turned to this

group for help. They were totally there for me every step of the way. They

told me I was dehydrated and what I needed to do. They told me to get to

the doctor and have a scope which I did and it was negative. I am so

grateful for everyone being there for me that I feel like I would be letting

them down if I didn't do all I could to stay well. I felt bad that I had

received so much attention that weekend and wouldn't want anyone to think

they wasted their time. Until I reread my email to you I didn't even

realize that was such a major issue in my mind.

Yes, I do it for me. My point is that I think we all could use some

accountability. Tomorrow just keep thinking about the group and that we are

all rooting for you!!!! Keep a record of how much you are drinking. Maybe

set a goal of so much by 10am and then by noon, etc.

Sip, sip, sip!!!!

in California :)

Hi Debby,

I think it's so cute the way people spell so many different ways.

Thank you for the ideas. It's nice to know I'm not the only one that hates

to cook. I will check out the restaurants in the area. I'm really sick

of eating the same thing everyday and I'm only getting in around 500

calories a day.

Thank you!

Hi

LOve your name by the way. MY youngest daughter is named Cyndie.

Like you I hate to cook always have always will.

I eat fast food but healthy fast food.

I order the roasted chicken or a chicken salad or chille. We have turkey

burgers here so i eat that. I order them plain or with mustard and toss

bread. It can be done healthy.

Hope this helps some. Good luck

This works for me.

Thank you so much for your encouragement! It is almost 1 am and here I

am sipping my wter until it is gone. No rest for this weary mama of 2

pre-schoolers! I remember when you were having trouble, I just don't

respond so much because I read all these posts on the fly between

changing diapers, cleaning up far-flung spaghetti and saving my 16

month old from my almost 4 year old... LOL! (It was easier to teach

kindergartners than to be at home with two little ones, I would have

never believed it!) I will keep a record of how much I am drinking, and

have decided not to go to bed until I have met my goal for the day...

Thank you so much for your support! I love the internet!

Hi Kim,

I completely understand why you are so busy. My daughter has two toddlers

age 2 and 3. Her family is living with me right now so I know quite well

how energetic you have to be to keep up. My daughter was laid off from work

a few months ago so she is home schooling the oldest since they can't afford

pre-school. She is like a sponge, just loving it.

I am so happy to hear you stayed up to finish your water!!! You go girl!!!

We have all been though so much to get healthier. We made a serious choice

and our lives are changed forever. It's up to us to see that this is a

positive, healthy experience. That's why this group is so important. We

need each other's encouragement. You obviously want the best for yourself

or you wouldn't be here :)

I am six weeks out and I'm not there yet. The water is all I can brag

about. I am supplementing, but not getting in enough calories, which is why

I'm not losing at the moment. I will get there, I'm not giving up. I'm

going to try another protein drink today. I know how important they are.

Keep sipping my friend, we are all behind you!!

in California :)

That makes me so happy to hear you are going to get the B-12 shots. I had

no idea how important B-12 was until I started reading about it. There is

an article I read online that really laid it out. Of course, it isn't

geared towards those with WLS so the only part I don't agree with is taking

the vitamin as a tablet. I think we are better served with the shot,

sublingual or the spray. Here is the link

http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag99/aug99-report3.html I remember when my mom

was entering menopause and her hands were shaking terrible. The doctor

suggested B-12 and in no time she stopped shaking. It also gives you a

boost of energy!

Good luck my friend! I hope your foot/ankle is doing better.

hi my doctor does protien only until you lose 75% of your excess weight. so

at the nutrion meeting I asked what to use in the protien shakes and in

coffee ( non caffernated of course) she said no milk products, but we could

use heavy cream for example instead of all water in the shake put half cup

water half cup heavy cream. well we will see i am having my surgery sat the

18th pray for me. oh the reason for the heavy cream it has no sugars at all

and o carbs hope that helps although I think in order to do this you have to

have no carb intake at all. cynthia
