I believe it is an excellent idea to check with your pharmacist to see if they have a program like these. Marsh's is a chain that mostly in Indiana. They also have other stores like O'Malia's. Darned if I can remember the rest at the moment. :-) But I digress........ I mentioned to the pharmacist that I was thinking of taking most of my generic prescriptions to Walmart, because it was cheaper than using my insurance co-pay. The pharmacist told me, that Marsh's could do a three month supply for me, in most of my generics, at less than I was paying per month with my insurance. I was pretty damned annoyed. I've been getting my prescriptions filled at that pharmacy for several years now and not once, has any pharmacist even mentioned the fact that I could get a better deal by paying them privately, then I could get by using my insurance. Sheesh! I ended up getting a three month supply of several things. The most any of them cost was $24.00 for three months worth. That's down from $15 per month (with insurance). To increase my savings, I now use this little card, put out by FamilyWize and the United Way. It's good for cheap prices at many, many, different stores across the USA. Careful of CVS pharmacies though, they have the highest prices of anybody. The card works, and there are no strings attached. You can just print it off from the site, or if you feel like jaunting around town, you should be able to get one at your local United Way. (phone them first). Personally, I think it's a lot easier to just print out the card and cut it down to size with scissors :-) http://familywize.org/ It's easy to look up pharmacies and prices on the site. Since the card was not known at my pharmacy, it took them a few minutes to look it up. I took a print out of the costs with me - just in case. What the prices were on the FamilyWize web site, were the prices the store charged me. You need to have Adobe Reader (Acrobat) on your computer to get at the card. Most people already have Adobe Reader installed. Just in case, you're one of the few people left, who doesn't have it on your computer, it's free and easy to install: http://tinyurl.com/a9sbq -- Lyndi

You're right, looking up the pharmacy's website is an excellent plan. Ironically, we use CVS, because they happened to buy out the Osco pharmacy that was formerly there. I just might check into another pharmacy. If anyone is taking Lexipro, it can usually be substituted for generic Celexa. The generic Celexa is on Walmart's $4 list. Talk this over with your doctor, because these are essentially the same medications. My daughter, changed a long time ago, and cannot tell the difference. It looks like there is help with many medications, we just have to be our own advocates. I'm glad this subject came up. If one pharmacy chain has a program, then most of it's affiliates have it too. There are so darn many conglomerates. Kaylene ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. You can go online and click on the medication listing and see what medications fall under this program. This way you might ask you doctor to change to some of these medications if they are similar. It is really good for the medications involved. I finally got my Provigal approved so I can go back and file on getting the money back. Medications really can dip into the old budget. Hope that helps everyone. Bennie

The one really big drawback with the $4 pharmacy programs is that the pain medications so many of us use are not covered. Neither are some of the other medications that are indirectly related to our pain treatment. That is why I am so pleased with familywize.org. All the major pain medications are available at a reduced cost. The name brands don't have much of a saving for obvious reasons, but the generics have excellent price reductions. I have no idea what strength of methadone, I will need to consider or if my doctor will even agree to a switch. But ever since the side effects I ended up developing from morphine products just kept getting worse and worse, my doctor has been less rigid about trying other things. Heck, with the familywize.org card, 100 ten milligram tablets of methadone only costs $16.61 USA. A bottle of 100 five milligram tablets of oxycodone, for break through, is $23.13. A 90 tablet bottle of clonazepam (Klonopin) is $8.55. And on and on it goes. Those are incredibly good prices. Especially for the USA. -- Lyndi

It seems to be easiest to stock Methadone in ten milligram tablets. I have started eating dried fruit, especially prunes, in addition to fresh fruit, to help with the constipation narcotics can cause. There are plenty of other dried fruits, but that is one of the least expensive. They satisfy my sweet tooth too. Sauerkraut, is excellent too. One of the tiny little cans holds several servings. I just heat it in a pan, and add a few spoons of brown sugar. Coleslaw works just as well, but there is so much fat in it. I think it was on another group I belong to but one of their members gave whole list of pharmacy assistance programs also. I will try to find that and post it also. I know that CVS and Walgreens has a discount program that if you pay five dollars you get medications and other things discounted but also waive the five dollars when you are a customer. I am lucky, my co-pay for my prescriptions are three dollars, nine dollars for brand, and 22 for others that are not considered on formulary. I just have to submit a letter for them to pay the 22 or get doctors letter and they will make it nine dollars. I thank God everyday that he kept me healthy enough to make it until retirement in the military that provides me this medical and prescription services. I will get my pay at 60 (if I make it that long) so I am very fortunate. Lyndi, please e-mail me privately, I have questions about getting off morphine to methadone.
