Guest guest
my name is kathleen hillary. i have had pls for 33 years although i was not diagnosed until 1997. i use baclafen and zanaflex. i also use effexor as an anti-depressant. i'm sure you will hear a slightly different 'story' from others but i feel that you have to go with what works for you. if you try something and it doesn't work then try something else. i broke my leg is 1989 and had to begin to use a wheelchair as the leg never strengthened enough for me to use it again. in 1994 i began using a scooter also and i love it because i can go a greater distance than i can with a wheelchair. i especially like to ride it in the summer. i have very little feeling left in my legs and it has started to affect my arms a little. in october i was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and that certainly didn't help my arms or hands. but we'll see what tomorrow brings tomorrow. i can no longer work and really miss it but am trying to find other things to do like reading - reading all the books i always wanted to and never had the time for. i also began taking more college classes, classes i always wanted to take but didn't fit into my other major and have discovered all sorts of great things plus i found out that i can still compete academically with the younger students. that really built up my self-esteem. i'm not taking classes right now, no money, but still find lots of things to read. i have discovered that my favorite historical period is the middle ages although i wouldn't want to have lived at that time. right now i reading a series (there are 20 books) of midieval whodunits by ellis peters called brother cadfael. a friend gave me The Encyclopedia of the Middle Ages for christmas and i just love it. as i'm sure others will say, i will too, you just have to go day by day. i, like everyone else i know, have good days and bad days. i will keep you in my prayers. take care, kathleen anne arsenault wrote: > > > > my name is wynn jones. i am a 69 year old male with symptoms for the past 4 > years mostly in my legs, weakening and balance problems. i use a cane and > sometimes a walker. i will be taking a drug called bacloven i am not sure of > the spelling. i would be interesd to hear from other people with the same > disease, duration of symptoms and if there is anything i should be doing. > sincerely yours, wynn jones > ______________________________________________________ > Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com > > ---------------------------

Guest guest
Hi Wynn and anne: I too am new to PLS. I was diagnosed in September of 1999. I found this group, and also 's web site that first weekend. It has been the best source of information I've found, and also the very best for support. We're all dealing with the same stuff, in varying degrees, and sure can help each other out. I wish I lived closer to take part in the study, but a commute from Iowa would be out of the question. I'd also love to meet with the group that Rita is setting up. Take care Wynn, hang in there, and try to keep your chin up. Love to all, Laurel Re: just diagnosed with pls > >Date: Sat, 08 Jan 2000 18:11:19 -0600 > > > >Hi anne, There are a number of us " newbies " here. Guest guest
Don: Are you talking about your electric lift chair? if so, I have had 2 and they are upholstered not vinal or leather. If your chair is vinal, they have cover's for them. Rita
