But most memorable are these two. 1. Texas Sea World (on a water ride) ... They had to sit 4 people opposite me to equal my weight to level the ride out.. I was mortified.. 2. I got stuck in a booth at Denny's.... Honest I was wedged in tight I could not get out unassisted.. Guest guest
My most embarrassing moment pre WLS has got to be this: I was dating my husband and things were looking pretty serious. I was 48 years old and my intention was never to marry because I did not experience happy marriages in my family for one and because I was a product of the 60's and really not into commitment. Anyway, for whatever reasons, this one was special and I started thinking about " hmmmmmm he is one I might say yes to. " So, thanksgiving came around and his mothers sister(his very favorite aunt) invited him to bring me to dinner. THE BIG DINNER. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE HER FAMILY. SHE HAD FOUR ADULT CHILDREN WHO WERE ALL SINGLE AND DATING AT THE TIME. WHAT NO ONE TOLD ME WAS THEY WERE COMING WITH THEIR INTENDED AND THAT TWO OF THEM WERE ALREADY ENGAGED. SHE ALSO INVITED HER SISTER(NOW MY MOTHER IN LAW) AND THEIR MOTHER AND A COUPLE OF COUSINS. GRAND TOTAL=32 COUSINS,ETC. SO, THERE WERE SO MANY PEOPLE LOTS OF COLLAPSABLE BRIDGE CHAIRS WERE USED. YOU GUESSED IT. YOURS TRULY GOT TO THE TABLE AND ALL THAT WAS LEFT WAS A BRIDGE CHAIR FOR ME. I HAD BEEN TOO EMBARRASSED TO ASK MY HUSBAND TO BE SURE TO GET ME A SOLID CHAIR BECAUSE HE WAS MY DATE AND I DID NOT WANT TO MAKE MY WEIGHT THE ISSUE. OBVIOUSLY, HE LOVED ME AND NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT. GUESS WHAT HAPPENED? YEP. I SAT DOWN. THE CHAIR COLLAPSED. I WENT UNDER THE TABLE AND ALMOST DIED. I WAS VERY NYC COOL OR TRIED TO BE. I MADE A JOKE ABOUT BEING FAT. EVERYONE LAUGHED AND THAT WAS THAT. WHEN IT WAS ALL OVER, I WENT HOME AND CRIED AND CRIED. GARY CALLED ME AND SAID HE KNEW MY HEART WAS BREAKING AND WHAT COULD HE SAY TO MAKE ME KNOW THAT HE LOVED ME AND NOT MY BODY. TODAY, 2.5 YRS AFTER WLS HE IS STILL SUPPORTIVE, LOVING AND STILL SAYS ITS ABOUT ME, NOT MY BODY HE JUST LIKES THAT MY LIFE SPAN HAS INCREASED AND MY HEALTH IS BETTER. WE ARE, BY THE WAY MARRIED 9 YRS NOW. JOYCE Joyce Blavat " People do not make a change until the pain of remaining the same is greater than the pain of change. Guest guest
Dear Friends, I think the thing I disliked the most is trouble with the seat belts on airplanes. And not being able to use the trays, because I couldn't get them down flat. I'm now feeling so much better. Four months out and down 60 pounds. I'm not sure what to think about doctors who won't operate on anyone over 60. I'm 72. Is this discrimanation? I know there are probably more chances for complications. But I haven't had any. I'm glad the doctor did the long incision. He was able to look around. He found a problem with my liver. I didn't even need very much pain medicine after the third day. I was in the hospital four nights. The insurance company is saving $100 a month on perscriptions for me. I'm off of heart and blood pressure medication. Also water pills and extra potassium. No more signs of diabetes. ( I was never on mediacation for that). Good luck to all of you looking forward to surgery Be positive. I was on a plateau for almost a month, but this last week the scales were down again. My biggest problem has been a combination of constipation and diarrhea. My only meds now are premerin, amitripyline (I have fibromyalgia and that helps me sleep at night) multivitamins, extra calcium and Vit B2. Guest guest
I have a couple of them: 1~ When I was 18 at the spring fest. our company was in the bed races, meaning 4 people pushing a bed down the street to the finish line, well cause my big booty couldn't run as fast as everyone else I slipped on the cement ground and MOONED EVERYONE at the fest. And the MOON WAS bright!! LOL I was so humiliated. I got injured pretty badly as well. Oh and its all on video tape! 2~ when younger I sat down in a chair and broke the chair cause of my weight well, you know how kids are they defiantly made fun of me even more so. 3~ Another time, cause of my weight and having such a week bladder, in a store couldn't get to the rest room in time. And I have to say this was just a few months before surgery that this happened. The stories go on and on and on. I would say #1 was the worst though. the company I worked for pulled sponsorship to the festival as well cause the gal that was doing the speaking started laughing hysterically. Which didn't go over too well with the owner of company. Theresa *The most beautiful things in the world can not be seen or even touched. Guest guest
I think mine had to be: 1. Travel in an Airplane.......Most flight attendants were pretty cool about discretely giving me an extension, but I have had a couple that really made a production of it, and therefore embarrassed the crap out of me.... 2. " Losing " my private parts....(I know this is blunt, but its very real) and being unable to use a urinal without a high risk of making a mess. I don't think I need to be too specific here...this problem should be self evident. I'm happy to say that I'm past ALL of that now....and getting better every day! Guest guest
Hehehe....that would have been priceless to hear! In all seriousness though...I have never been, well, you know.... " well endowed " .....and when I gained so much weight in my lower abdomen and groin area, it literally swallowed most of what was there. Now you have to understand that this was always quite humiliating for me. The only person that has ever been aware of this was my wife, and only because she has been around long enough to " see it go " . I share it now because its one of those unspoken " guy " things. I'm sure there are a few out there who can relate.... Now that I've TOTALLY bared my soul here....I'll shut up for a while! Jim So have you seen our website at http://www.jimandkelli.com/ ? Guest guest
Lesley - Thank you for sharing your story with us. In regards to the bowel problems, do you take any additional fiber, like Metamucil or something? That might help to even things out somewhat. Also, maybe something in your diet causes these fluctuations? I have fibro, too, and IBS is a big part of it. I'm a little nervous as to what the IBS will be like post-op, but it's not great when it flares now, so can't be much worse. Take care. Guest guest
My most embarrassing moment was when I was hospitalized and had to go to xray , and I didnt fit the wheelchair .. and the attendant told me I could either go by stretcher or walk, they didnt have a large enough wheelchair.. I went back to the room and cried I was so embarrassed.. OR When I was at my mom/s apt and sat on her toilet and it broke.. I had to tell her.. and listen to her lecture me about being so fat... and call the apt manager for her and report a broken toilet seat.. It may be tommorrow or three weeks before I get the chance to bring it up. But, in anycase I will let you know. Complicating the situation is my weight going doooown..I know that with him being depressed( he is) and heavy that it could cause insecurity if I add to the mix by saying hey, your penis has shrunk under the fat...even if I say it in a nice way... So I am thinking that the thing to do is to build him up in other ways and to involve him as much as I can in my new activities etc..to show him 1st that it is all about make US stronger, before I bring it up..and possibly he may catch the fever and I may never have to bring it up if he starts getting active etc. I appreciate you guys, there is no one else in the world I would have talked this over with. Guest guest
IN a store, waiting for Don to try on clothes. Kids near by waiting for parents. Little girl about 4 says to her brothers (maybe 8-10?), " WOW, look at that FAAAAAAAAT lady " . I was horrified. OR Was sitting there ALONE one day, eating one of my " diet " foods. Guest guest
Well, the first one to broach the subject was me. She had noticed that I had stopped urinating from the standing position and innocently asked why. I explained to her that I had already had a couple of accidents related to the lack of " directional control " , meaning that there was less of it to find and grab onto and so there was seldom enough to reach beyond the area of my pants, and found that the only way to go safely was to sit down. This, naturally let to a discussion of size with regard to sex. She lived with this for years. And my own sex drive fell off to almost nothing at all. I don't think I realized what was happening until after the second time I sprayed the front of my pants. (Thinking the first was an anomaly) . Then once we talked about it...the sex part was a natural progression of the conversation. You know I'm usually pretty chatty, and have some kind of opinion on almost any subject, but on the subject of speaking to your hubby about this, I'm not sure how you should proceed. I can only suggest that if you have a strong and loving relationship, and it sounds as if you do, he would listen to what you have to say if you had a frank, but delicate conversation about this. Maybe the best thing to do is find a way to get it in a conversation. In any event, I'd be interested in knowing how this goes for you.....
