Guest guest
Thanks, Marie. Your points are good ones. I posted the website address in part because I had been told that since Splenda was " made from sugar, " it couldn't cause any problems and was a completely safe and natural product. (Or did I hear that partly because I wanted to hear it?) Anyway, now it's back to weighing benefits and risks, which seems to be the case with all aspects of diabetes. I saw a TV report on research which indicates that newborns differ significantly in how they react to their first taste of sugar water. Some are indifferent, while others start sucking that sugar water as if it were heaven in a bottle. The conclusion was that having a sweet tooth is probably at least partly genetic. Interesting. I guess some of us have a harder battle to fight than others:-)
Guest guest
Splenda has not been on the market long enough to know for sure how safe it is. However, holistic sites are against anything that is not in the pure form or natural so we must consider the biased views there as well as the biased views of the mfgr. Too bad items are allowed on the market " before " being sufficiently tested for side effects and long term use problems. Best thing is to learn to enjoy foods without a sweetner but must confess I do use a little Splenda on oatmeal mixture for breakfast. Caution is definitely in order when using items not in the natural state and the unknowns regarding them. Marie.
