Guest guest
Hi all, Susie here is a sample of my last 2 days readings all taken Before meals. i.e. breakfast, Lunch and dinner Mon 5.9 5.8 9.7 Sun 6.0 5.5 6.5 These are fairly typical, Once or twice it peaks at around 10 or 12 Before May of last year it was very erratic often in the mid teens until I started to eat little and often because of a peptic ulcer, I noticed that my readings started to even off because of this. No great inspiration but pure luck. I went to the home page of " Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes solutions " and downloaded the first chapter and a few other snippets. My Doctor actually told me that it was pointless taking my BG after meals as it was irrelevant . Not according to Dr Bernstein, It is those sudden peaks that do the damage. Have I got that right? Any way I have been into town and ordered a copy of the book it will be in my hands on Friday. I am really pleased I have found this group, It may give me a few more trouble free years of life. Regards to all.

From what I read and have learned, it's the post prandial (after meal) spikes that can do you in. Many on this list try not to go over 6.0 (120 US) after meals. Your readings are way too high for good control. I'm so glad you're onto Dr. Bernstein and ordered his book. You will learn so very much. And, unfortunately, there are a lot of doctors out there, who really aren't up on their diabetes research. And they used to not spend much time on it in medical school either. The good news is that diabetes is a self managed disease, and we all can work on our control by testing, testing, testing. You might consider lowering your carbohydrate intake as well.
