Guest guest
What is the meat fast ? Sandi,I guess I'm not the expert on why people don't lose while followingAtkins strictly. Maybe you are one of those metabolically resistantpeople that needs to try the fat fast. Or you could do the meatfast for a couple of days and see if that gets you jump started.Jean
Guest guest
Meat fast is basically 0 carbs, just meat and fats - the free foods (and we all know cheese and eggs have carbs, so limit). It is vaguely described in DANDR, p 230. Since I am writing, I just want to mention the other big watchout for folks who are LC legal, but not losing: too much protein - 58% of all protein is converted to glucose; if you eat too much meat, you will never switch to fat-based metabolism, since there is plenty of glucose coming in (from the meat) - how much is too much? varies by individual, but should not be over 1g per lb LBM. - what is LBM - lean body mass; use one of the body fat calculators (not BMI) to get a ballpark number - how do you know it is too much protein? not in ketosis; not losing; eating a LOT of meat: multiple chicken breasts, large steaks, whole packs of bacon, more than 6 eggs per day, big protein shakes, etc There is also the possibility of eating too much food all together. I don't think I have seen mention of how much you weigh/have to lose, but rule of thumb is 10-12 x current weight in calories; lower if you are sedentary, higher if you are really muscular and/or workout. CAUTION: if you are losing...DON'T WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING IN THIS POST!!!!!!!!!!!! HJ ----- Original Message ----- What is the meat fast ? Guest guest
I DO eat 3 meals a day. I did that ONCE. One day that I couldn't eat. I posted my meals from yesterday and that is what I usually eat with changes in the main meat. Alessandra Alessandra, Your body will hold onto the fat if it thinks you are starving it. You really have to eat 3 to 5 small meals a day, not one meal and a couple of very light snacks. I don't know that YOUR body has gone into starvation mode, but I know that it is so easy to think that if you aren't hungry you shouldn't eat and you will lose. That just does not work. Yes, yeast could cause you to retain your weight. There are some places on the web that offer yeast questionnaires to help determine if this could be a problem for you. Maybe someone has one of the addresses for these that they could post. Jean
Guest guest
Cheryl, NOOOOOOOO I am sorry. YOU were NOT jumping on me. And I am the one that is sorry if it came off that I was talking about YOU. AND as far as the time difference, who was joking ? :}}} I can't believe I am not losing either and as far as staying with it. I don't want to go back to no fat. I believe in this and I have never in my life been able to stick with anything. I love the feeling of control BUT I have to lose also so if this continues, I will have no choice but to give it up. BUT NOT YET. Alessandra (Sandi)ICQ #2695225 Sandi,I was only funning with you and wrote that before I had seen all the different posts that followed it.I was going along the same joking as we were doing about the time difference.I am sorry if that came across as I was jumping on you. That would be the farthest thing from what I would want to convey.I can't believe your not losing, and with not losing how your sticking with it anyway. You are a very strong woman indeed. The only thing I can say to possibly try to help is what the other gals have said.Post your menus and check out the Yeast factor. I have some links somewhere on yeast if you would like them I will send them to you.Again I apologize I meant no harm.Cheryl Ü<< I am at the end of my rope and I desperately need help and support but I don't need to be jumped on. If someone can suggest something that I am doing wrong, I will be grateful to hear it. :}}Alessandra (Sandi)ICQ #2695225 Let me get this straight. You have lost absolutely zero since you have started Atkins? Am I getting the picture now? Cheryl Ü >>
Guest guest
there seems to be a big delay in my messages appearing so I guess you didn't see yet where I posted my food for yesterday. I eat plenty of protein. Eggs almost every day. usually 3. tuna or left over chicken or whatever meat from the night before. For dinner always meat of some kind. I would love a shrimp fest but who can afford it ? I used to make shrimp scampi a lot but the main thing that filled you was the pasta. To fill up on just the shrimp would be a fortune, Alessandra (Sandi)ICQ #2695225 Alessandra, Thanks for the run down on what you are not doing wrong. Now, what I didn't see, and maybe you didn't post because you thought it was obvious, was much about protein. You cut out pepperoni and no longer eat chunks of cheese, but I didn't see anything about eating meat, eggs, cream cheese, etc. Not knowing what you may be eating along these lines, may I suggest that you up your fat intake? Several people have noticed that adding cream cheese to the diet helps them lose weight. How about a steak with butter added on top? I also seem to recall several people said that eating shrimp immediately put them into ketosis? How about having a shrimp fest? Jean
Guest guest
The meat fast is what some people consider a more tolerable version of the fat fast. Instead of macadamia nuts and cream cheese you would eat strictly meat and drink water only. Meat offers more variety as there are so many different types of meat. It doesn't have the same fat ratio that Dr. A. tries to achieve with the fat fast, but it has helped some people who just didn't think they could do the fat fast. Guest guest
Another thing to think about, and an easy one, is to follow a *strict* Induction.. Dr. A stresses over and over that Induction should consist ENTIRELY of fat and protein, with the only carbs coming from a moderate amount of salad or vegetables each day. While in today's world, there are plenty of " low carb " foods that would keep you under 20 grams a day, they're usually made of fillers along with a small amount of fat or protein, or carbs from something other than vegetables., and not really good for Induction. It's simple to follow strict induction (although certainly not easy) because you should only be eating meats/poultry, small amounts of cheese or cream, possibly nuts, and salad/veggies. Sometimes cutting out the extras (which for me had to include low carb ketchup or bbq sauce, mustard, certain spices or pre-mixed seasonings, sugar free jello, anything with citric acid, and most artificial sweeteners - except Splenda, etc etc). Even something as low carb as diet jello is made up entirely of fillers that AREN'T fat or protein. And many seasonings you buy from the store have starches and sugars as preservatives or to make the seasoning pour better. A good rule to follow is if something has 0 calories, 0 fat and 0 carbs, chances are it's not that good for Induction. You need the fat and protein not only to keep you full but to keep your body burnin' off that stored fat! You can use the Induction foods list in DANDR which includes those foods that are completely legal. Always be sure to check for sugar on the label - lots of lunch meats or deli meats have added sugar that isn't part of the curing process and that does add carbs. Even a trace amount of sugar each day can keep a resistant person out of ketosis! Even if you don't come close to 20 carbs! You may already have tried this, but if not I thought I would suggest it. :-) - At 10:23 PM 8/22/00 -0400, you wrote: >Actually I was thinking of the Fat Fast. Guest guest
Well I started the meat fast yesterday. 0 carbs. Had left over chicken for breakfast and lunch and made a roast beef for dinner. Have plenty of roast beef left over for today.
